You're Dell may have come with a program called SpeedStep from Microsoft. SpeedStep allows you to adjust the CPU fan speed. Currently I came across a patch for MS SpeedStop, open the link provided;
http://dell.driversdown.com/dell-drivers-downloads/Microsoft-SpeedStep-Fix-for-WinXP_6156.shtml
If this doesn't help you can buy a new fan if its out of warranty. Open the link; http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=Dell+Dimension+9G180&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=nBMMTNqVMoHGlQfU8tHpDg&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CCcQrQQwAA

DELL INSPIRON M5030 MAKING NOISE DO NOT POWER ON WHAT SHOULD I DO

The fan on the processor is bad/dirty/sticking and heat is causing it not to start for protection of the system. Fix, replace, or clean the airways and fan and that may allow it to start. Ventilation is ultimately important to stay in good working order. Also, if there is a disk in the cd/dvd unit, it would try to boot from that first before using the hard drive. The noise could be that disk being spun and trying to read, which if finding no startup files would stop it from starting as well. Removal of that disk may allow it to start.

HP Pavilion a1010n. Compuiter fan keeps going on and off. Even when computer is not being actively used. Comes on with full power and keeps going (loudly) for a minute or two, sometimes longer, then...

The fan triggers on ONLY when the temperature of the PROCESSOR heat sink goes beyond the settings of the thermistor fixed on it. This is to prevent any damage on the processor and so if there is any malfunction of the PC in its OS or the drivers , then it can be reset, Other wise check the ventillation ports of the PC cabin and clean them. A good ventillation must allow the fan to rest but if the fan works and shuts at times it is only because th processor works and heats. Clean the system, teh hard disk and files and defragment the system.

I have a couple M90 & when I boot them up all I hear is the fan very loud & no video I've opened the unit up everything is in order

Hi,

I have met similar problems with IBM ThinkPads. From my experience with ThinkPads, the problem is usually associated with faulty graphics chip on board.

Sadly, there is hardly a solution to this problem except getting a new motherboard. If it is a desktop, then I suggest you try usinjg an add-on graphics card and try booting the machine.

Desktop computer fan runs constantly

Hi,

Desktop fans do run constantly, you cannot avoid this.

The reason they get loud is because there will be a build up of dust on the fan blades.

To rectify this problem turn off the computer and remove the power cord from the rear. Then you need to remove the side panel from the base unit to expose the motherboard.

You will see that inside the case it is full of dust. Look at the CPU fan (the fan on the motherboard) also take notice of any case fans too, they are at the back.

To clean the fans and the case you can use a clean dry paintbrush or compressed air.

Once the inside of the case is cleaned you will see a noticeable drop in noise.

Regards.

Problem with Toshiba Equium Laptop which is switching itself off. even when connected to mains supply Is this a problem with the switch or power supply? Hope you can help thanks

If the laptop shuts down and won't boot up straight away, then the problem could be an overheating CPU problem. It could be a faulty fan and/or the fan and heatsink assembly is clogged with dust.
Check the fan and if it has stopped spinning then replace it and if the fan and heatsink is clogged with dust, loosen the dust and remove it.

My computer fan is running continuously, from the time it turns on. (even before booting in to windows xp) why does my hard drive fan kicks in all the time - its loud and annoying

The fans in most desktops do run whenever the unit is on. Only high end/ performance/ or self built systems usually have self adjustable fan speeds.

Emachines e3415 problem

I would guess that the CPU overheated if the fans are noisy. I would remove the CPU heatsink clean and reinstall the CPU with the proper contact paste, reinstall the Heatsink along with a new heat sink fan, if that is the one is making noise also.  Then see if it will then boot up. If not I am guessing that the CPU was damaged for the fans not workingwell enough.

power supply fuse maybe trip/busted, you let repair the PSU to repair shop or you replace it with the same wattage rating or higher.
