Before you begin (things you’ll need):

  • Palm Desktop (the software that came with the Palm Treo)

  • Blackberry Desktop (the software that came with the RIM Blackberry)

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000 or newer (even if you don’t normally use it, you’ll need it to act as a translator and synchronization source for the address book data)

  • Blackberry device and sync cable

Exporting/importing the data:

  • Start Palm Desktop. (The latest version as of this writing is 4.2 although Palm’s own web site only has the older version 4.1.4 available. [Update: apparently 4.2 has compatibility problems so Palm reverted to an earlier version on their site.])

  • Create a new entry and in every field, put the name of the field as the value for the field (e.g. in the Last Name field, enter Last Name; in the First Name field, enter First Name). This will make it easier to do the data mapping later.

  • Go to the address book and select all the entries you want to export (choose Select All from the Edit menu to choose everything). Failure to select entries will result in only the first one being exported.

  • Choose Export from the File menu.

  • Choose the file type as CSV (comma-separated value).

  • Enter the name for the file (e.g. Contacts.csv) and remember where you’re saving it.

  • Start Microsoft Outlook.

  • Open your Contacts.

  • Select Import from the File menu.

  • For the file type, select Windows CSV or DOS CSV (the name may be different in your version of Outlook).

  • Select the file you exported in step 6.

  • If Outlook doesn’t automatically map the fields in the CSV file, you’ll have to map them manually. The easiest way to do this is to go to the address of the person named Last Name (remember that you entered this in step 2?) so that you can easily see which field is which in the CSV file. Then assign them to the appropriate field name in Outlook (the method to do this may vary with different versions of Outlook).

  • Click the Finish button to import all the addresses.

  • Go to the Blackberry Desktop and open the synchronization utility.

  • On the configuration tab, make sure that the Address Book is associated with Microsoft Outlook (there will be a double-headed arrow between the two).

  • Plug the Blackberry into your PC with the synchronization cable.

  • Watch all the messages go by as the data is synchronized.

  • When the sync is done, disconnect the Blackberry and check that everything appears in the Blackberry’s address book. If it doesn’t, reboot the Blackberry (not sure why this is necessary but my friend’s Blackberry wouldn’t show the new data until he took the battery out and put it back in).

Or you can use Companionlink software to sync your blackberry. Visit this link to get more information.

Good Luck and have a nice day.

Copy Contacts from Palm Centro to SIM Card

When I migrated from my Palm Centro (best smartphone ever) to my current BlackBerry, I did the following: 1) Export Palm contacts from the Palm Desktop software to CSV (comma separated values or tab-delimited text) format. 2) Import the CSV file to your Google Contacts account. 3) Wirelessly sync Google Contacts to your new phone using the free Google Sync app (link below). 4) Verify data was transferred appropriately.
Google Sync details:
You should be able to follow the same process for your Palm Calendar by exporting your Palm Calendar from the Palm Desktop software to a file (save the exported file to your desktop, or an easy to find location on your computer), then import the Calendar file into a NEW Google Calendar, not your primary calendar (in case there's conflicts or problems, you can delete the secondary Google calendar without losing your primary Google calendar items). Google Sync should allow you to choose more than one Google Calendar to sync with your new phone.

I had a TREO650 and have replaced it with a Treo700wx. I want to have the Palm Desktop information on my new phone.

With this method of upgrading your handheld, you'll transfer all PIM¹ data from your existing user name to your new handheld with the same user name. You will also transfer all third-party applications to your new handheld. Caution: Some third-party applications may not be compatible with your new handheld. Your handheld will crash, freeze or display an error when these third-party applications conflict with your new handheld. If you notice performance issues or problems after transferring third-party software to your handheld, follow our steps for diagnosing third-party software issues.
  1. You must install the version of Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager included on the CD-ROM with your new handheld, even if you already have an earlier installation on your computer, and even if you will synchronize with Microsoft Outlook. This ensures that the desktop components of any new handheld features are added.
  2. Put the new handheld's CD-ROM² in the CD-ROM drive.
  3. Follow the installation instructions that appear.
  4. When prompted, select the existing username of your old handheld.
  5. During installation, you will be asked to perform a HotSync operation. Use the same existing username as above.
  6. Once installation is complete, your PIM¹ data and third-party applications will be transferred to your new handheld. Your new handheld will have the same name as your old handheld.
  7. To avoid confusion, change the name on your old handheld once you're sure that you have all your data transferred to your satisfaction. If you're going to sell or give it away, you may wish to perform a hard reset to erase all your personal data.
  8. With this method, you have a greater likelihood of encountering third-party application incompatibilities. If you notice performance issues or problems after transferring third-party software to your handheld, follow our steps for diagnosing third-party software issues.

How do i tranfer my contacts from my palm centro & another palm centro?

First, make sure you backup all of your data, including data in any 3rd party apps.
Sync your first Palm Centro with the Palm Desktop software to save the data.
Verify the sync settings in the Palm Desktop software to make sure when you begin syncing with the new Palm Centro, the settings for each application (contacts, calendar, memos, etc.) are one-way sync to the device, or you might end up overwriting the data in your Palm Desktop software with what's on the new Palm Centro.
When you sync your new Palm Centro with the desktop software the first time it will ask you to name the new device. If you give it the same name as the old Palm Centro, all of the data will sync to your new Palm Centro.
Search your computer for a folder with the name "Palm" in it to try and locate the name of your old Palm Centro, so you can name the new Palm Centro the same. When you locate that folder on your computer, it would be a good idea to simply make a copy of that folder as a total backup.

Can you sync the palm calender to a blackberry 8330

if you tell the palm hotsync program to sync with outlook, you can dump your calendar into outlook, and when you sync your blackberry with the desktop manager you can tell it to sync with outlook as well, and that is how you can transfer the calendars.

Backing up

How you restore your data depends on what mobile device you use. But your data is backup up every time you sync using Palm Desktop, Active Sync, Windows Mobile, etc. If you have a treo or similar device they'll even backup your data directly to Outlook.

There are also 3rd party SIM backup programs, these I don't prefer because you need the device to restore them and it complicates situations where say your Palm device crashes and you want to restore to a Windows device instead.

I lost my calender during a Hotsync.

Hi mikeand,

you could check the calendar on your computer using Palm Desktop application. You could restore the data to handheld only if the Palm Desktop show the data you need.

Palm data and ActiveSync

You won't be able to do that. Lotus Organizer as well as Lotus Notes and OutHook are PIM some plus e-mail, just like Palm Desktop is a PIM. So you can have the Treo sync with Lotus Organizer AND have the Axim sync with it also it is because there are conduits buit for them. There is a middleware that allows both to talk to one. Now if you can find a piece of software out there that will sync a PocketPC with Palm Desktop, I'm sure a lot of Palm converts would love to know that.
