Here's how:

1. Be sure that your Internet connection is running smoothly and the green lights are all up. If you have a Nintendo Wi-Fi connector, you need to have the software installed and your computer connected to the internet.

2. Turn on your Wii.

3. Select Wii Options, which is located on the bottom left of the screen. This is the button with the Wii logo.

4. Select Wii Settings.

5. Click forward to the second menu screen using the blue arrow to the right.

6. Select Internet.

7. Select Connection Settings.

8. Choose an open connection, indicated by the word none.

9. Choose a wireless connection.

10. Determine the best option for you: Manual configuration or Search for an Access Point.

11. On Search for an Access Point your Wii will search for a wireless network to connect to and will display a list of available networks. Networks identified with a closed padlock require authentication to join.

12. Select your network.

* If your connection signal appears yellow or red, the stability or strength of the connection is not strong enough for the Wii's Internet needs. If possible, remove any obstacles between the Wii console and the Access Point or change the channel on your router to avoid interference.

* If your wireless access point does not show up when you choose, Search for An Access Point, your router may have Broadcasting set to "No" or "Disable." Some routers also refer to this security as "Stealth" mode. You can either change your broadcast setting to "Yes" or "Enable," or you can manually enter the SSID in the manual setup screen of your Wii console.

13. Select Save and OK.

14. Select OK on the next screen and the Wii will preform an automatic connection test.

15. Wait for the Wii to connect and download any needed updates.

* TO BROWSE THE INTERNET *

1. Go to the Wii shop channel and download the Internet Channel. This channel is free.

2. Select the Internet channel from the block on the main screen and follow the instructions to browse the Internet.

Thank you and good luck!

If you do not have wireless you will need this adapter to connect via a wired ethernet connection

If you do have a wireless setup, enter the console settings and go to network settings and you will be able to set up the wii to access the internet via a wireless connection.

How to set up nintendo wii internet

  • 1 In order to set up your Nintendo Wii internet connection, you need to have high speed internet service, such as DSL, cable, or fiber optic.

If you want to use a wired connection for your Wii, you will need to purchase the Nintendo Wii Lan Adapter and a long ethernet cable to reach your router or modem. The Wii Lan adapter is available from many sources for about $30 and the cable will cost you around $10 or more. If you want to plug in your computer and Wii at the same time, you will need a router. You do not need a router if you are planning on unplugging your computer when you use Wii over the internet. Honestly, wireless routers cost about $35 and don't require a cable, so I purchased a wireless router instead. Plus, I don't want an ugly cable running across the room.

If you still want to use the Wii Lan adapter to connect to the internet, here are the steps to connect your Wii Lan adapter to your Wii game system:

Make sure your Wii game system is turned off.

Attach the Wii Lan adapter to the USB port on the back of your console.

Connect the other end to an ethernet cable that goes to your router or modem.

    Turn your console back on.

If you are using the Nintendo Wii Lan Adapter to connect to the internet, follow this step. If you are connecting to the internet via a wireless router, skip this step and go to step 3.

To connect your Wii via a wired connection:

    Go to the Wii Menu.

Click on the round Wii button on the lower left corner.

    Click Wii Settings.

Click the right arrow to go to page 2.

    Click on the Internet button.

    Click Connection Settings.

    Click Connection 3.

    Click Wired Connection.

Your Wii will do a connection test and hopefully everything will be all set. You are now finished.

Select the access point you want to use. Click Save and OK.

You may be prompted to enter your password.

Your Wii should now be all connected.

The wii is unable to connect to internet

It seems that it can't establish communication to your access point.

    Nintendo Forum explanation:
    Wii Error Code Group: 52020, 52021, 52022
Summary: Connection difficulty with either router or modem.

If automatic configuration is not working (it expects DHCP to anser; i.e. to get an assigned IP address) try manual configuration. Enter the values as you would on your PC to connect to the network.

Consult the Nintendo Forums for detailed help.

All you need is a wireless router. The Wii comes ready w/ WiFi. We installed a Linksys WRT54G2 router and hard wired to one sons xbox and Wii connects via WiFi. The router was about $45.00 @ Best Buy.
