I thought the same, I've been looking into the HDD cases but I'm not sure if they are compatible with my HD (WD 10EAVS). Is this a viable option?

Inside on the PCB board or outside on the cable? If inside, you will have to remove the connector & solder in a new one. I doubt this will be worth it in terms of time you'll spend doing this. Also, you will have to open the casing to get to the board. So, then, why not just take the drive out & hook it up to a computer to either retrieve the data or to use as a secondary disk. Go buy another external drive to replace the previous functionality. This will be far cheaper than trying to do a component level repair.

Sure. Unless it's a real old external drive, it likely houses a SATA drive. Most external cases are about the same. Expensive ones have built-in intelligence (embedded linux server, for instance) and network connectivity. For everyday home/office use, a cheap one should be available for anywhere from $15-$50. I don't know what area you live in, so I can't give you local stores, but BestBuy will sell you one at a decent profit. Or, you could get one on buy.com or newegg.com if you don't mind a day or two in shipping. Just pay attention to cooling (active or passive). 2.5" run cooler than 3.5" and you can get away with passive. But, for 3.5, I'd make sure the case has a good (& quiet) fan.

    Good luck!

The machine needs to be with a stitch length above zero.

If the machine has a switch that makes your machine go into free arm that will also cause this.

The only other thing is a mechanical problem which will need to be repaired.

The solution to this problem is to contact your nearest computer store. They may either order one for you or have one on hand.

I dropped my WD Passport on the floor and it got disconnected from the usb cord drive cable, when I plugged it all back in and plugged it on my pc it doesn't shop up anymore, how do I fix it?

Sadly you don't.
Dropping a hard drive and having it still work is something you should never expect.
You could pry the case open and put the drive it in an empty external drive case and see if it works, or try a new cable, but the most delicate part is the drive mechanism itself, and if anythings broken, that is most probably it.
You could probably get a replacement, maybe not WD, for around $60 and one I got on special $70 including postage from an online seller a few weeks ago had a 500GB WD drive in it.

My WD external HD "element" will not turn on

When you say it won't turn on, do you mean, there is no spin-up and not LED. If this is the case disconnect it from the power source and then reconnect it. If the LED flashes once or doesn't appear at all, the power supply is faulty and you will need a replacement. If you call WD, they will send you a replacement power supply free of charge.

Usb is broken on hard drive

Do a web search for data recovery.they are high priced but will attempt to recover all info. Most will place recovered data on a brand new harddrive at no additional cost.Suggest picking several and calling prior to mailing. RICHARDM69
