Question about Toshiba Satellite A100-S8111TD Notebook

2 Answers

Keyboard m, c, v, x and apostrophe dont work. Pressing comma also works as F11 at the same time. PGUP and PGDOWN work improperly. Only right control works. Pressing space gives me bracket and space - [ [ . Sometimes it will repeat a key like thiss one or qq. Somehow G is connected with F7 which asks me for caret browsing. F2 is connected with S, F4 with D, F11 with comma and F12 with a dot. Arrow keys only work on a single stroke (holding them wont move the cursor). I dont know how to fix. I did virus and spyware scans, fixed the registry with registry mechanic, in safe mode the issue is still there and I dont have any restore points. What can I do? I have a vista 32, toshiba satellite A500-13F laptop. And I didnt instal anything that might affect the keys and I dont think its dirt, I keep it clean (without using water, just dry cleaning). The keys just didnt work anymore. I just checked in device manager and theres no yellow exclamation mark. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver, but the issue is still here. Now I am trying to download a driver if its anything better but I cant find anything. The issue must be digital rather than something physical with the keyboard, because all keys act the same. Whenever I press G it asks me for caret browsing, even if I checked not to show that dialog box again. Whats wrong?

If pauls solution didnt work (it probably will if the keyboard is new)
then you can give my idea a shot. If your keyboard is dirty and you think it needs a clean, remove it from the laptop (there will be online tutorials showing you how to do this) and disconnect the little ribbon wire(there usually orange). Then take your keyboard and put it in the dishwasher. I know it sounds crazy but i have done this on alot of keyboards with a 100% success rate. Let it dry out for a few days.
Also, before you try this, you can try to reinstall the operating system. You can gt it for free at the pirate bay, or with the recovery disk. I hope this helped.

Hi, "I suggest that you try reconfiguring the way the Keyboard functions. Click on the Start button, in the [Start Search Window] type: keyboards; the "Keyboard" will appear in the shortcut menu. Next, select to open, make all the changes to your specifications, "Apply and OK" all changes. After you are finished, Restart the Computer. If this helped; let me know by giving a "helpful rating," thanks.

SOURCE: Some keys on my laptop dont work

Hello hklotus, hi, your keyboard is totally bad, the mcvx keys are open, this could be that SOMEONE may spilled liquid on your keyboard, you may not know it. I agree with the other experts advice, its either you replace your laptop or buy and use a USB external keyboard. you choose.

I can't open SYLK file

are you trying to open a txt file or a comma-separated variable (CSV) file and i bet the chances of the file name having a capital "I: or "D" are good huh.
To open your file in Excel, open the file in a text editor, and then insert an apostrophe at the beginning of the first line of text.
How to Insert an Apostrophe
To add an apostrophe to the beginning of the first line of text in your file, follow these steps:
1. Open the text file in a text editor, such as Notepad. Click before the first character in the first line of text. Press the APOSTROPHE key on your keyboard (').
2. On the File menu, click Save. Quit the text editor. You can now open the file in Excel.
hope this helps , next time tells us the version of your excel and what operating system you are running.

Some keys on my laptop dont work

Trying a desktop keyboard is useful for determining if it is a keyboard problem or a software problem. This usualy happens if some liquid has gotten into the keyboard, but you said thats not possible. Try to boot into bios, the first screen that pops up when you boot, on a toshiba it is usually pressing F1 or Del. then if your Arrow keys don't work there, you need a new keyboard.

Go to the control panel and set up your mouse. If this doesn't fix the problem, take the mouse apart and blow the dust out where the wheels with slots are. There is a small eye that detects movement in the wheels. If that doesn't fix it, the mouse needs replaced.

The keyboard appears to be defective, but if you replace it and you still have issues, then the matrixing chip on the motherboard is bad and you will have to change the motherboard as well. Let me know, and vote.
