I am glad I purchased my Toshiba Satellite because I have learned to never purchase another Toshiba laptop. Their support is useless and my laptop has been in the shop twice.
This, the latest problem with my dear Toshiba was created from purchasing a USB wireless mouse that is not recognized by the device (yes it appears in device manager as any USB device is expected to, but the Vista OS does not recognize it). Toshiba support says it is "beyond their scope" to assist me with the problem.
The mouse works on all my other laptops and desktops when tested. I think their BIOS is buggy. I finally got mine to work by taking these steps.
1) unplug the power chord
2) unlatch (disconnect) and replace the battery pack
3) install the USB dongle transmitter on the left rear USB port
4) push the power ON button
5) now you have about 5 seconds after the blue "Satellite" LED comes on to sync the dongle and mouse by pushing the buttons - you must sync on both buttons before the Toshipa "inovation ....." boot-up screen appears
This works every time for me and unless you break the connection or power down the laptop, the mouse keeps working, even when the mouse goes to sleep from none-use. I also found I had to plug the USB dongle in the left USB and toward the back of the machine.
I hope this helps and a note to potential customers, give their support a call and ask a few simple questions to see what you think before buying anything from them. I'll let everyone form their own opinion.

I have a presario 2500 and was having trouble with my Genius Traveler 600 cordless mouse. The problem was eventually fixed by choosing a different USB port. For further discussion (since I don't come here often) you may write to me.
