Before doing anything, disconnect the power source first.

You can take the cover off, check that the HDD is properly connected. 2 cables 1 for power and 1 for data. Make sure both ends of the cables are home and good. If not, make them so and you've repaired your PC.

If they are good, your HDD has probably failed. If so you've probably lost all your data.

If this is the case, you can buy a new hdd install it and re-install windows.

Probably a faulty hard drive. go into the setup screen and verify the HD setting is correct. save your settings and reboot. if this doesn't solve it, then take out battery and disconnect power, remove hard drive and reconnect. try reboot. if none of that works, then replace hard drive and reinstall OS.

It wont boot, goes to black screen with whit blinking dash

Yes, this sounds like the traditional black screen issue, but it's different! This machine is a Dell Dimension 3000 with XP. System won't boot. After Blue Dell BIOS splash screen with F2 & F12 options, it just goes black. There will ultimately be a white cursor in the upper left hand corner. I can edit BIOS with F2, I can get in to the boot menu with F12, but I can't do anything after that. I can even get in to the Safe Mode menu (F8), but it never boots.

Unfortunately, it sounds like your hard drive is out. Or the boot track has been damaged. You can try a repair using the win 2000 cd. Read the following link :

Since it is your business computer, I would advise that you have the hard drive removed from the unit and have your data saved, before attempting any action.

Laptop won't boot.

if the hard drive is suspect, then you should be able to boot from a windows cd if you have one, usually you can do this by hitting F11 or F12 dependent on laptop type to boot from CD/DVD Drive instead of hard disk, you can then check hard drive using chkdsk util on windows cd

When my Gateway 300S is powering up, it recycles.

If you repeatedly hit F8 key when the computer starts to boot it will open the boot menu screen. There should be an option to "halt computer on all errors". This should bring up the blue screen of death. It should give you something like
STOP: 0X0000007E, the a whole bunch of other numbers. after that it may display a file name. You can search the internet for STOP: 0X0000007E and the file named mentioned. You may be able to find a solution by doing this. It is usually caused by a bad driver or executing a bad command on Windows start up. You can boot the computer in safe mode from the boot menu and maybe repair the problem but it's a tough one to find. I'm trying to repair a similar Gateway computer. It doesn't list a file name and I'm pretty sure that it's a video driver or the onboard video card. The problem is Gateway is no longer in business and it's hard to find updated drivers I"m going to try to backup all the files on the drive and re-install windows and try to repair the drivers with more updated ones. The gateways are hard because they don't have slots in the motherboard to install anything but an old PCI video card. It may be time to think about a new computer soon.

When my gateway MT6705 tries to boot, blue screen

Many times this error occurs when I have swapped a hard drive and used the wrong IDE cable to connect it. If your computer uses an Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA) hard disk controller, and you use a standard 40-wire connector cable to connect the UDMA drive, you may experience this error. Make sure you are using the correct IDE cable.

Also, if your BIOS settings are configured to force the faster UDMA modes, this error may occur. In this situation, restart your computer and enter the BIOS and load the "fail-safe" default settings and reboot.

If neither of these issues are the cause for the Unmountable Boot Volume, then the issue most likely is caused by a damaged BOOT.INI file in the root directory of the boot drive or file system corruption.

Follow the steps below to correct these file system issues:

1) Start your computer with your Windows XP CD-ROM, or with Windows XP boot disks
2) When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press R to Repair the installation using the Recovery Console
3) If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the Windows installation you want to access
4) Type the administrator password when you are prompted, if no administrator password is set then just press Enter
5) At the command prompt, type CHKDSK /R and then press Enter
6) Once CHKDSK has finished checking and repairing the hard drive, type EXIT and press Enter to restart your computer

Likely the hard drive is bad. I would suggest testing the hard drive or having a technician test the hard drive, replace it if it is bad and restore your operating system

Gateway 4530gz blue screens

Sounds to me like the hard drive is defective. If you are able go to the manufacturer's website of the hard drive and download and burn out their hard drive testing utility. Boot from the disc and test the hard drive. If it passes then download Memtest (free) and burn it out and boot from it and test memory. Likely one or the other is the issue

powersource is good.motherboard might be the problem.harddrive can be tested by putting it in
another computer and see if it boot up.to test the mother board unhook the cd drives and harddrive.turn
on the computer and see if the gateway logo comes on.if it still does the the samething with everything unhooked
then it might be the bios.you might have to flash the bios and reinstall it.to do this i recommend you take it to a
shop.if the comp runs with everything still unpluged and stops then you know that you have a wrong
setting on the harddrive or cd drive.if you got two of anything make sure that you have a slave or master.if you nned me to
write a guide email me at gamecrazy944@yahoo.com or if you got anymore questions.

Gateway 995 boot problems

Maybe you can check you BIOS / your boot device priority and set it to your hard drive as default.

If this doesn't work, then the problem would be your hard drive (it's read / write function is not functioning properly.)
