Question about Archos AV700 TV Digital Media Player

2 Answers

Transfering an avi file to the archos.

I have tried to move a 1.42 gb movie into my archos 700 . When opening the file on the Archos, it has copied only 1 hr 57 mins and not the 2 hr. 35 from the desktop avi file. Please can you advise me as to why the entire file is not being copied over. I look forward to hearing from you asap. Thanks. Sharo

Please can you look at the problems I am having with my Archos AV 700 media player. It will not play the entire file I have transferred from my computer. One file was 2.58 and only played 1.56, (approx) the other file was 1.58 and only played 1.09. so it will accept more than 1 hr. 10 mins.

Hello sharonolins,

First of all i want you to check is that you have enough space in archos 700. if you do i want you to delete the first part of the Avi file that you downloaded but its wasn't the whole file. and then try to re download the whole file sometime archos 700 go to sleep while you are moving files and it gets stuck so dont let the device go to sleep mode while you are moving the files.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thanks.

I have plenty of space on the Archos. It plays back perfectly from the Archos other than the fact that it doesnt play the entire file despite the fact that it says when I go to Info on the archos, that the complete file is there. Are there settings on the Archos I have to change to allow the full file to be shown ?

What i believe from you wrote you only be able to download the half of the file so that's why you only have half of the movie. but now what i want you to check did you really have the full movie in your desktop check the size of the avi file that you have on your desktop.

Right click on the file and go to properties.
And check the size of the file.

    Thanks.

  • sharonmolins Jun 08, 2010

the full size is transferred as when I click on AV700 on my computer screen and go into Video, I can play the entire film. However when I disconnect the archos from my computer, then go into Video, it only shows a time which is not the entire film.

It is possible that the archos can't handle that big of a file. You can try to compress the file or see if the player can handle a smaller file type.

Have you tried playing all of the file on the computer to make sure it is not a corrupt file? Have you tried another file? Does it have the correct codecs? Is the file copyright protected? Have you checked the manual?

I have played it on my computer and it plays perfectly. When I play it on the Archos it also plays perfectly except that it doesnt play the entire file I have transferred . One file transferred approx. 2 hr 58 and only played 1 hr 57, the other file was aprox 1 hr 51 but only played 1 hr 09. What I need to know is why it wont play the amount that has been transferred. |When i click on info on my archos, it gives the correct readings , i.e. the duration is correct, the codex is mpg4 which is correct but yet still wont play the proper duration

I would try either resetting it or updating the software of it.

I have downloaded 5 movies in avi and dragged them onto my archos 5 (250 gb) when i go to play them they keep breaking up and unwatchable can you help

Hi,
You may want to change the format of the movies. The player may be able to play .avi files but sometimes it will just not play and changing the format may alleviate the problem. Follow these steps: - Follow this link and download youtube downloader free of charge http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=youtube+downloader&tag=srch&searchtype=downloads&filterName=platform%3DWindows&filter=platform%3DWindows - After you have downloaded and installed it please open it and go to convert a video you have already downloaded. - Select the movie you want to convert and then convert to .mp4 which should play with anything - Wait for it to convert and then drag it to your archos 5.

How to copy your commercial DVDs to the ARCHOS 7

With an 800x480 pixel-wide resolution and a 7" TFT LCD screen, the ARCHOS 7 can absolutely provide users with the best cinema experience on the go. You can watch your movies in full width, which will give you the same viewing comfort as a TV in your living room. Your video watching experience on the go will never look so good.
Because of the excellent cinema experience, and its huge capacity - both 160G and 320G versions are having enough room to store movies, more and more users would like to copy their DVD collections to the handheld device. To copy a commercial DVD to the ARCHOS 7, you need a program called Pavtube DVD Ripper to rip it into ARCHOS 7 compatible file formats, like AVI, MPEG4, AVI video, and WMA, AAC, WAV audio. The following paragraphs will detail the steps of how to rip DVDs for playback on ARCHOS 7, if you are searching for such a solution, just read on it to get what you need.
First of all, you can download Pavtube DVD Ripper here.

Step 1: Load DVD files
Click "DVD Rom", "DVD Folder" or "IFO/ISO" to import DVD files to this program. This utility allows users selecting their needed chapters to convert, and you can right click on a title, and then do selections on the popup window, like "Uncheck All", "Show Chapters", etc. By the way, usually, the one with the longest duration time is the main movie, so just tick off this one would be OK.
Step 2: Select output format for ARCHOS 7
Click on the pull down menu of "Format", and then all the format profiles will be listed out as below, just select "Archos" firstly, and then choose a format for ARCHOS 7, here I select "Archos 5/7 WMV Video (*.wmv) for instance.
Step 3: Set advanced settings
Click "Settings" button, then you are able to adjust video and audio parameters like codec, bit rate, aspect ration, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate, and audio channel in the following interface. Basically, the default settings can ensure the output quality to be good, so, if you do not have special requirements, there is no need to change the settings.

Step 4: Click "Convert" button to start DVD ripping
Once your DVD is ripped, you can find out the output files via clicking on "Open" button, and then drag the file over to your ARCHOS 7 for playback.

Copying Video from archos 605 wifi to computer

I think the Archos 605 has a 2gb file limit, so the only option would be to split the avi.
Search on Google for an avi splitter - there are some free ones out there.

DOWNLOADING TO MEDIA PLAYER

1st of all, your Archos needs to be set to PC Hard Drive mode in the settings.
Then when you plug it into your pc, it will just show as a new drive.
You can then simply drag and drop movies, music, flash games, files etc.
The Archos accepts avi files with mp3 sound, however if you purchase the package which allows you to watch DVD's onthe Archos, then you also have a whole load of codec's which means it accepts Real Player files, Dolby Surround sound, you can copy 4.7 gb dvd's straight to it and much more.

Install video on archos605wifi from pc without windows media player

I dont like it to use Windows media player and to synchronise.
In Settings -> System you need to set USB on 'PC Hard Drive'
Then you can use My Computer to find the Movies, just copy and past them in Archos -> Video map. Notice that Archos can't play any movie, you need special extensions.
I kow 1 exension, I convert my movies always in that 1 so Archos can read the movie: AVI MPEG4
There are more, but I need to find out.
Anyway, good luck trying to 'install' video's on Archos and also watch them ;)

Need to know quick

if you are putting a vob file on to the archos you will need to get the cinema plug-in from archos.com to play it then you just copy and past on to your archos. but it is better if you use a divx converter. you can get this for free just type it in to google. the converter will make the vob file into a avi file which is much smaller then you should just be able to copy and past on to your archos.

How to convert videos/movies on to my archos 605 media player? keep getting an error message

The archos will only play M-peg 4 type files unless you buy on of the plug ins, so the way round it is to crack a dvd using "dvd shrink" this will get round the copy protection then convert the cracked dvd to m-peg 4 im using "any video converter" tese programs can be downloaded free on the net. not sure if this is the easiest way but it works

Downlaoding movies

Once you have downloaded the file to your PC simply connect your archos to your pc using USB cable provided, select PC hard drive mode, and simply copy or drag and drop from one destination to the other. Your Archos usually appears as J:Archos604WiFi if you have a built in card reader if not it may appear as an earlier letter in the alphabet.

Archos 704 Wifi - does not play AVI file until its full lentgh

I had the same issue.
The size of the AVI cannot exceed 1gb or the end of the movie will never play.

I had a movie that was 1,7gb. 2 hrs and 15 seconds.
The Archos recognized this as a 1.7gb file and 2:00:15 long.
As soon as the movie started, the time line bar at the bottom of the screen went from 2:00:15 to 1:10:25. Basically, it cut off the last 50 minutes of the movie.

I simply divide the movie into 1gb chunks.

I decrypt the DVD to the computer
Use Nero Recode to convert it to and MP4. Divide the movie into 1gb chunks and Maximize the Volume.
Use SUPER to convert it to an AVI / MPEG-4 / MP3.
Copy this to the Video folder of the Archos.

This is simply something that Archos does not want to admit is an issue. They want you to purchase the Cinema plugin.
