Yaesu ft-857 squelch problem

Your RF gain control needs to be turned all the way up to be able to receive signals and if you are on one of the HF bands like 40 meters or any HF band the squelch control needs to be all the way off! You do not use squelch on HF! When on VHF or UHF then you would rotate the squelch control just to the point that the background noise stops and go no further. Higher squelch settings will only block weak signals and your radio will be deaf! Squelch control rotated just to the point the background noise stops! NO SQUELCH ON HF. Turn the squelch all the way off on HF!

What owmage antenna for a maxon mcb 30 i 'am using a cobra cable reel type up n down antenna

Always use 50 coax cable. For automobile use RG58 or LMR200. For home use RG8X for cable runs under 30 ft. For longer cable runs use RG8 or LMR400.

Why does my new Honda CB always show RX receiving transmission no matter where squelch is set?

if this is on a Goldwing, it appears that you have a shorted pin int he connector. Disconnect the radio and make sure all of the pins are straight and connecting properly.

The problem may be in the audio output chip mounted on the chassis, also! there is also a small capacitor located next to the audio chip that has known to be a problem, finally sub the speaker for another, often a source of trouble.

I have a radio TK 701 H. The antenna is a homemade J with copper tubing. The power source is a Macromex transformer that has adjustable voltage. It transfers from 120 volts ac to variable volts dc,...

It's possible some of the repeaters you're hearing are using CTCSS tone squelch. The other people won't hear you unless you have the right tone selected. 15 V is too high for most radios. They're rated at 13.8, so turn you power supply down to something between 12 and 13.8.

We are trying a radio check for a mirage 66 but the static only goes away when we turn the squelch all the way down and we can't hear anyone

Sounds like you have a lot of interference. Could be something in the vehicle causing all the noise. Try it with the engine off. Also make sure the antenna system is correct. for example, coax good. antenna grounded. SWR low. etc.

Radio comes on but cant hear others talking

Is the antenna plugged in?
Is the antenna propperly checked with an SWR meter?
Have you tried turning the squelch back? (squelch on)
Have you check the microphone connections? (is the microphone dodgy?)

I have a Kenwood TH-22AT, 2 meter handheld. I decreased the squelch manually from a 5 down to a 1 to find some weaker stations. In order to put it back where it was, I need a frequency that is not busy....

You apparently have combined my radio problem with someone else's problem with a humidity device or something. My problem with the radio was solved very nicely, and I have the receipt for the payment.

Symptom:Buzzing or motorboating sound in either the transmit or receive.
Problem: TR602 is oscillating
Cure: Replace C602 with a .01uF cap {Cap is located in the power supply board}.
RG 66,99,DX2517 Replace Q54 2SB754 60watt 7A with a higher power 2SB817 100 Watt 12A. Derating of this component will cool operation, provide better voltage stability, decrease wobble, allow voltage increase to 14.5 volts comfortably. (replace 10 volt caps in this section of the radio to a minimum of 16 volts before increasing supply voltage to this level)and provide faster swing rise time, Replace Q37 2SA473 to a 2SA1012-0 or ECG153 this will improve the clarity and volume of the modulation and it will also run a lot cooler.
