That's not a good idea. If you have stored the pics safely on your computer, you can completely erase the card in the camera by going into the menu and finding "format"...follow the on-screen instructions.

I bought new 4 gb card for my coolpix 4300 and it doesnt work

Remove memory card, go in the menu and check the internal memory is wiped clean, if not! erase all pictures and restart the camera, when that is done the memory card should function once you re-install it.

I have nikon camera dx100 when i insert the memory card it says "CARD NOT FORMATTED" what will i do to fix this problem? i have very important pictures there taken during my niece's recognition...

You didnt really say if the card was in your camera when you took the pictures, so I will try and walk you through a couple scenarios....
If the same card WAS in the camera when you took the pictures, and it worked OK until you took it out and re-inserted it, you can try a couple of different things. First off, by no means format the card! Look at the card contacts. If they are dirty, try wiping them gently with a clean cotton cloth (make sure it is cotton so you do not "zap" the card with static!) and some isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol- use it sparingly- put a little on the cloth- don't pour it on the card! Let it dry for a few minutes and try again. If you have some "canned air" you can blow out the camera slot also. With the card in your camera, also try connecting the USB cable to your PC and see if you can download them. If this does not work, look and see if you have a card slot in your PC or printer and see if you can read it that way. Another alternative is taking the card to the photo shop of your local Walgreens, CVS, Rite-Aid, or any other store with a photo shop....nearly all have card readers now.

If the card was not in your Nikon when you took the pictures, or if the card was not initially formatted, they will be in the cameras native memory. Connect the camera to your PC with the USB cable and you will be able to retrieve them. Normally without a card or if the card was not formatted before it is used, the camera is capable of holding about 35 pictures in its native memory.

When you are done, make sure to format your card so it will work in the future. Follow the menu instructions.

Welcome to FixYa.

I have seen several question with the same issues on your camera. There where 3 possible reasons why do you received an error "clean or format card". First reason is your card was not formatted for the camera used. You need to format it first for you to be able to used the memory card. Second reason is memory card slot or the memory card itself requires cleaning. Yu can used soft and dry cloth to cleaned it, sometimes pencil eraser or any eraser can be used to clean the memory card, but you have to be careful in using it on your memory card. After you clean it, you also need to format the memory card. Third possible reason is memory card might need to replace.

Notes: All existing data, including protected pictures, are erased when internalmemory or card is formatted. Make sure that you save or transfer important data to a computer before formatting the memory or card.
Make sure that there is no card inserted in the camera when formatting the Internal Memory.
be sure that the card is inserted when formatting the Memory card.

Make sure that you have a fully charged battery or used the AC adapter.

I hope this information can help you.

Picture on viewer fine..transfer to computer divided

It sounds like the file is corrupted. Try formatting the memory card in the camera. This will wipe the memory card clean and eliminate it from the being the problem. Formatting the memory is erase the memory card and you willnot be able to get the pictures off it after you format it, so make sure you down load all you the pictures you want befor formatting the card. Then occasionallly after downloading everything, format the card on a regular basis. This will help to keep the cards internal memeory from being fragmented. If formatting does not fix the problem, try another card (format it before use) if this does not fix it, take it to a local camera store and let them trouble shoot the problem or send the camera off for repair.

My camera says memory card is write protected

If you have a slot on your printer or computer for the compact flash card, insert and try reformatting the card itself.

If you use a usb cable, hook up the camera as if uploading pictures to the computer and try reformatting the CF card that way.

To reformat, find the drive in "My Computer" that corresponds to the card or the camera. Right click on it and choose 'format' from the menu. Another window will come up that has a small box to check for 'Quick Format". Check the box and click OK. You'll receive a prompt that all data will be erased. Click OK.

If this doesn't work, it's time for a new CF card.

Cannot find instructions in manual for Nikon Coolpix S210 on how to delete ALL photos from memory disk. It will let me delete one at a time but I want to wipe the memory card clean. Thanks for any and all...

These instructions are from the Instruction Manual of the Coolpix S 210 and need to be carried out within the Set-Up Menu.

Refer Page 19:

Removing Memory Cards
Before removing memory cards, turn the camera off
and confirm that the power-on lamp is off. Open the
battery-chamber/memory card slot cover and press the
card in 1 to partially eject the card 2. The card can
then be removed by hand.
B Formatting Memory Cards
If the message at right is displayed, the memory card must be
formatted before use (A110). Note that formatting permanently
deletes all pictures and other data on the memory card. Be sure
to make copies of any pictures you wish to keep before formatting
the memory card.
Use the multi selector to choose Yes and press k. The
confirmation dialog will be displayed. To start formatting, choose
Format and press k.
Do not turn the camera off or open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover until
formatting is complete.
• The first time you insert the memory cards used in other devices into the COOLPIX S210, be sure to
format them using this camera (A110).

Refer Pg 110:

 Format Memory/m Format Card
Use this option to format the internal memory or a memory card.
Formatting the Internal Memory
To format the internal memory, remove the memory
card from the camera.
The Format memory option appears in the setup
Formatting a Memory Card
When the memory card is inserted in the camera, the
Format card option appears in the setup menu.

Hope this helps

Missing photos...mysteriously erased?

My memory card was not securly in the slot. My camera is broken and just randomly ejects the disk. Therefore I am only taking pictures on the camera memory. In my case I took pictures on the disk, then it popped out of place, and I was only reviewing the pictures on the camera memory. I opened the door reinserted the disk and found the lost photos.
