It is a transmission issue if the washer continues to agitate during the rinse and spin cycle. This requires you to replace the transmission assembly (part number 27001039) and cost you about $250 plus labor. You don't have to accept or reject and rate this post to add information or post your comments and follow-up questions.

The washer does not go into rinse or spin cycle. It just continues in wash mode. When it ends, it is still full of water. When dial is in spin position & you open and close lid, it will go into spin mode. It doesn't do this when dial is pointing to rinse.

Replace the timer (part number 27001113). Unplug the washer and remove the screws securing control hood assembly to control hood rear panel. then rotate hood assembly forward. Remove the bottom of the control hood from the clips located on the cabinet top.

Remove the timer knob from the timer shaft by pulling the black plastic tab located
on the back of timer outward to release knob, then remove timer knob
skirt. Slide a soft cloth under the knob skirt, wrapping the entire skirt and
pull gently away from the control panel.

Remove screws securing timer to control hood mounting plate. Disconnect
wire harness terminal plug from timer by lifting locking tab and pulling
terminal plug away from timer. Lift the plastic tab marked 1 located
above the securing screw and sliding the timer to the side releasing the
tabs securing the timer to the control hood mounting plate. Reverse
procedure to install the new timer.

Washing machine won't rinse or spin

sounds as if you have a faulty lid switch, for safety reasons if the machine doesnt think the lid is closed it willnot spin/drain the waer out.

GE Top Load Washing Machine -- Agitator will not cycle

Agitator's don't spin on wash cycle.

I would suggest washing the clothes without soap until they rinse clear. If you have hard water, the soap will not easily rinse out of clothes, or off of you when you use soap to wash or shower.

Reduce the amount of soap you use in each wash if this is the case. It sounds like your washing machine is working right.
