Question about Washing Machines

2 Answers

Washing machine will not agitate or spin. The model is a GE S3700G1WW just 2.5 years old. The problem started following a power outage that occurred while the machine was running. The timer, pump, water valves, etc seem to be operating okay. Only the drive motor is not responding to commands. The LED signal light under the drip cap on the motor is also not working at all. It appears the is not power getting to the motor. The diagram shows a fuse in the system, but I have not been able to find it to check continuity. I have followed the instructions to reset the motor but to no avail. Information concerning the location of the fuse and other suggestions would be very helpful.

I have not received another response from the previous contact. Can someone help be take this a step further. If the fuse seems to be good because it has continuity what would be the next step?

The LED signal light under the drip cap on the motor not working indicates that there's no power getting to the motor. With the front panel removed, look to the right and you should see wires wrapped in tape. Remove the tape and you will see the fuse on the white and red wires.

Front of machine was open and I removed the tape on the wire harness as suggested. No fuse was located. The tape was just used to bundle the wire in the wire harness. The portion of the wire harness to the right upper side of the drive motor has four wires of which one is red and one is white but no fuses found all the way back to the top of the machine.

Check the wires for something that looks like the one in this link.

Okay, found the "fuse" per the photo you send. Checked the continuity with my multimeter and it does not appear to be burned. There is good continuity across the fuse as pictured.

My apologies for the delayed response due to the delayed notification that you have posted a comment.Trace the wire where the fuse is found to where it leads and check the continuity. The next thing to do is inspect the inverter on the motor for any obvious sign of damage such as burned components. Replace the motor/inverter assembly should there be no issue found in the wiring harnesses.

Thanks for the reply. There is continuity all the way from the timer switch to the plug under the drip shield on the motor/invertor. There does not seem to be any evidence of burning or overheating of the motor with either sight or smell, both of which should be very obvious. I certainly hate to invest almost as much in a new motor/invertor as I originally paid for the machine only a little over two years ago. It may be best to just replace the machine altogether rather than just start throwing parts at it to find where the problem may be.

Hello, it does seem you know what you are doing although does the motor smell very bad? if so it has burnt out

No, the motor does not smell nor do any of the parts appear to have gotten hot or burned. There is continuity all the way from the timer switch to the plug on the motor end. I'm stymied. I certainly hate to spend almost as much for a motor/invertor as was originally spent to purchase the machine. It may be better at this point to just replace the machine again. Terrible thought...........

Timer seems to have gone bad. Manually move the timer to make the dryer spin. If you get it to spin and drain then it's your timer.

Doesnt agitate or spin.

Mine is 1 1/2 years old and this worked for me

unplug from power for at least 30 seconds

turn the dial to spin but don't pull out

plug back in to power and open and shut completely so switch is engaged solidly 11 times in 15 seconds.

pull out knob to turn on

This should clear a error code.

hope it helps!
