Why is there oil under my briggs and stratton 4hp pressure washer motor? (on the top of the pump)

pressure washers are unique in the fact they have two separate compartments for lubricating oil , one compartment holds engine oil and the other compartment holds pump oil/coolant the two compartments should never mix (bad idea) even though they both take similar type oils , sometimes the pump oil chamber will expand a bit with heat in use and a little oil will pop out a vent hole in top of pump , this is normal but if this is too excess its an indicator of larger problems (blown seal) both compartments should be ck'd before use every time for both level and clarity and causes fixed for any thing that's noticed , pressure washer pumps are very expensive to repair , with costs in the hundreds to thousands of dollars for seemly minor repairs ( nothings minor on them) and the oil is there way to keep cool and work ok for years

id your engine model and consult the briggs site........
the oil in the pump is filled during assembly so it doesn't have a nice pair of fill and drain plugs

How do I winterize a Briggs and Stratton pressure washer

Change engine oil, add fresh stabilized fuel, start and run to circulate new fuel. Use a section of hose and pump som RV antifreeze (the pink stuff) through your pump and hose if you are leaving your hose and wand hooked up.

Hope this helped

How do i put oil in my pressure washer and where thanks

gasoline-powered pressure washer needs oil in two places. The pump and the engine.
Please read your manual along with this information.
Also stop by small engine shop and double-check details.

First the pump: Pump is where you attach hoses.
-On side of pump is clear window you can see oil. Oil should fill about half way. Do not fill entirely.
-Open cap on top of pump.
-Pour oil in from top.
-Your manual should tell you which oil to use. 10-20 or 10-30 non-detergent should do.

The engine.
Look for oil cap on lower side of engine

Use regular 10-W-30 motor oil.
Don't over-fill. About half way up dip stick is about right.
Never turn gasoline engine upside down to drain oil, or oil will flow into carburetor.

Leaking at point of connection between tip and wand

There is a rubber o ring in a groove towards bottom of the snap in connector. This seals around the tip as you insert it. It will never seal without it. The ball bearings you mention are only to hold the tip in place. The sealing goes on down in the coupler

Oil

Remember when your searching for something you can't find the internet is always your best bet. You should also use a good search engine; www.bing.com is one of the best search engines I have ever used. I searched some stores that have the oil your looking for, one online store is www.amazon.com and if you have one near you and they also carry it at Sears. The grade of the oil is definitely weird, 75W90. Also if you would like to look for other stores that carry it go to Bing and type "Briggs & Stratton Pressure Washer Oil" into the search bar.

How to change oil in a pressure washer

From the manual CleanShot 2050 Briggs and Stratton

Change Pump Oil
1. Drain engine oil and fuel from pressure washer
2. Use an 8 mm allen wrench to remove black pump oil cap between high pressure outlet and garden hose inlet.
3. Tiltl pressure washer to drain oil into an approved container until it drips slowly from pump.
4.Tilt pressure washer in opposite direction and empty premeasured pump oil bottle into same opening (a small funnel may be helpful) [THIS IS WHAT THE MANUAL SAYS-NOT CLEARLY WRITTEN IN MY OPINION OR WRITTEN BY SOMEONE FOR WHOM ENGLISH IS A SECOND LANGUAGE]
5. Install black pump oil cap and tighten firmly.
6. Set pressure washer in upright position. Add fuel and engine oil.

From the engine manual use synthetic 5w-30, 10w-30 from -20 degrees F to temperature of 100 degrees F.
Change oil after 5 hours of operation initially. Before tipping to drain oil, remove fuel from fuel tank by running until tank is empty. Remove oil cap and dipstick and tip engine. Keep spark plug side up. Or remove drain plug from the bottom of pressure washer with a ratchet and square extension and drain oil from bottom. (fuel does not have to be removed)
