The lenses from the optic engine of this tv are made out of plastic - in time, due to the heat generated by the lamp, they warp, producing distortions in the image. This is a very expensive repair, over $500 for a complete new optical engine, way too much in my opinion for such an old machine.
Keep using it as is while you save money for a new one then junk it.

Wavy distortion of the pictures

Hello!

That can be repaired, the vertical and the horizontal that regulate the voltage towards the projection maybe lessen or fulty. you can let the service man/service center repair this. these not much cost you, that is very cheap part and a minimum labor cost.

I have a HL-R6168W about 5 years old. It just recently started making a loud fan/vacuum like noise when the tv is on. Also the picture is distorted meaning the color is bad, greenish blue and hazy. The...

You may have a couple of problems. The shading is probably caused by a defective light tunnel, Samsung is covering the cost to repair this problem on certain models. You can call 1-800-samsung to find out if it is covered. The noise and color distortion sound like the color wheel is also beginning to fail. Both of these components are inside the light engine and I would recommend not trying it yourself.

Must have blown something...all of a sudden after 9 yrs of use...picture is distorted. seems to arch toward the middle and mostly red and blue. Can watch it but very very distorted. sup?

I had the same kind of problem with a projection tv I had it was as simple as removing the front panel to expose the lightbulbs where there are 6 screws two for each color one for focus and one for power if after adjusting theese and going into the setup and adjust the color calibration it still does not work you want to make sure the three light bulbs on the bottom are alll working as missing one light can cause tints and the distortion your talking about

Camera operates OK but pictures have a purple cast and fine vertical lines. This distortion is also present looking at the screen before picture is taken.

Sorry but these are classic symptoms of a failed ccd imaging chip, and it's effectively irreparable.

Repair costs will exceed what you could buy another brand new one for (£58), although it is a discontinued model. £70 ish would buy an equivalent current model replacement and would still be cheaper than the repair costs. Buying the spare part alone (you probably can't anyway) will typically cost more than buying a replacement camera.

The only way your camera is going to be worth a repair is if it is still under the manufacturer's one year warranty as it won't cost you anything, but the model was discontinued around two years ago so this option is unlikely to apply.

Sorry that the outlook for this is bleak, but hopefully you have found my reply to be of use. If so please rate my answer.

I have sansung 42 hlf of the screen is distorted line and see

Ask the repair man which boards needs replacing and what he thinks the problem ?

If its just the power supply board then just a few components (like capacitiors) needs replacing not the entire board.

The cost of 2 boards would be approx £175 maybe more just for the parts not including labour.

I recommend getting a second opinion if you feel this person may be ripping you off.

My TVs power board cost £89 to replace..luckily i discovered the problem with the board it needed new 6 capacitors (which had blown out) and got it repaired for £50 including parts and labour.

Good luck!

Picture has shadowing or ghost like images

This unit is getting distortion form the video circuits, most likely capacitors or resistors causing distortion to the input or output circuits. This problem could be caused by a bad video amplifier also ,which is distorting the signal. This problem needs to be checked with an oscilloscope to follow the signal path and find the source of the distortion. Usually this is best handled by a service center. If the unit is still under warranty call this number for Insignia customer help : 1-877-467-4289. If the unit is not under warranty, you should take it to a service center and have an estimate of the problems and repair costs. You can find parts for this television at the Best Buy parts website. Just google it and put in the number of your television and it will list all available parts and prices. You can also call this number for Best Buy parts : 1-888-237-8289. Hope this helps you with your problem.

What do you mean by distorted? The TV can be adjusted using the remote and entering the service mode. Can you send a picture of the distortion that is being displayed?
