If you have a cd I believe your going to have to reformat your operating system on the laptop, not really sure if you can still recover your personal data from HDD, try booting into safe mode if it will if it does try doing system restore on the system ^_^ if it does not work then reformat the system on issue .

System32 drivers ntfs sys

To resolve this problem, replace the missing or corrupted Ntfs.sys file:
  1. Use the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD to restart your computer.
  2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to select the To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R option.
  3. Type the number of the Windows installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console, and then press ENTER.
  4. Type the administrator password when you are prompted, and then press ENTER. If no administrator password exists, just press ENTER.
  5. At the command prompt, type the following commands (press ENTER after each command):
  6. --->cd \windows\system32\drivers
    --->ren ntfs.sys ntfs.old
    Note This step renames the corrupted Ntfs.sys file to Ntfs.old. If the Ntfs.sys file is not found, the file is missing.
  7. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:copy cd:\i386\ntfs.sys drive:\windows\system32\drivers
    Where cd is the drive letter for the CD-ROM drive that contains the Windows XP CD, and drive is the drive where you installed Windows XP.
  8. Remove the Windows XP CD from your CD-ROM drive, type quit at a command prompt, and then press ENTER to quit the Recovery Console.
  9. Restart the computer.

My cd rom is unable to read cds and there is error in cd-rom driver....

If the Cd rom driver has an error, you can check and know if it has an error. Click on start, Control Panel, System, for windows xp, click on Hardware and then device manager, try and look to identify if your cd rom driver has a question mark on it or a yellow mark, if so, this means that the driver is corrupted, you need to uninstall it, right click on it and choose uninstall, after restart your computer.
for windows 7 and vista click on start, control panel, system and device manager, do the rest as explained earlier.

My computer can not start. Message: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFING\SYSTEM file is missing or corrupted. Kindly assist. Thanks.

You need windows CD for this problem to go away
as it clearly states that your windows system file is missing or corrupt

so borrow a windows CD from some one and put it in your CD ROM
then press F10 to get into bios and under advanced boot priority change your first option to CD and restart ,it will ask to boot from CD,press enter and follow on screen instructions

it will ask to reinstall windows or repair,choose repair option and it will repair all the windows files and your system will be fine again
