Question about Nikon D5000 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I took wedding pictures the other day. I went to go download them and half the pictures are telling me that the file does not have data. Pictures after that show up on my computer and camera. What happened? How do I do my pictures back?

Hi.

Unfortunately that usually happen when the memory card is defective. Stored files do not contain data, but only the pointer to a space with 0KB file.

When this happen there is scarce or no chance to recover the data.

First try reading the data using an USB adapter (egIOGEAR 12-in-1), rather than connecting the camera directly to computer.

As first step copy and paste files from the SD card into a folder in your computer. This will store a safe copy of the good files. Do not use delete, cut, and do not save or modify any file in the memory card.

After this operation try using a recovery software like the ones listed below to attempt recovering the rest of the files. Use a different folder to save the files after recovery.
If that does not help, it means that no file content had been stored into memory card. As said, that usually happens because of a defective memory card. Often it is possible to get the card back to work by formatting it, but better getting a new card.

IS there anyway to uncorrupt the card or the files and get the pictures? Why did it do that and not tell me? I saw the pictures as I was working with the camera, but there is only a place for the pictures and no data? Could just the header of the picture file be corrupt?

Re:IS there anyway to uncorrupt the card or the files and get the
    pictures?

A:Yes the one explained, using computer and software, save the files first.

Re: Why did it do that and not tell me?

A: I do not think this is camera fault. The camera attempted writing, but the faulty memory card did not store the file. The camera controller board would not know that track had not been stored. That it is the most common situation.
Test the camera using a different memory card, even if a faulty camera doing this will be extremely unusual. If problem is the camera, then a firmware update would fix it. Problem is not the camera.

Re: I saw the pictures as I
    was working with the camera,

If you played back the pictures in the camera (not only when shooting, but after files were stored), that means that the files at a point were good. Something on the card had gone wrong after files written. A common cause is bad file allocation table (FAT) on card. File space gets allocated for new pictures, and old file gets deleted.

Re:but there is only a place for the pictures
and no data? Could just the header of the picture file be corrupt?

A:Yes it can. What we call the header of the file is a different thing. The header is the starting part of a picture file. What you address as header is the pointer in allocation table. If the picture data is in the card because the pointer is wrong, it will be recovered by the software (that is what software provided does). The point is that if that space is lost or overwritten, the software will not work.

Note:Problems of this kind often (but not necessarily) happen when the files stored fill up the card to the top, some defective card get messed up and this is what happen.

I accidently deleted my wedding pictures from my pny memory card/Nikon 5100 camera, can I restore them

I've used Recuva (free download). Do a thorough deep scan and save to another drive. Very simple to use as long as you have not reused same physical space on card.

My memory card deleted everything off of it

First of all, get a back up with pc sync software, check the link if you can find it
http://www.lg.com/uk/support/mc-support/mobile-phone-support.jsp,

then update the firmware of your phone. For recovering picture or data from memory card, there are several data recovery software in net. download any of them and get back your precious data by inserting your memory card in card reader.

hope it will solve the issue.
best of luck!

I RECEIVED A DISK WITH WEDDING PICTURES FROM MY NIECE IN THE MAIL TODAY. I WOULD LIKE TO DOWNLOAD IT TI MY COMPUTER. HOW DO I DO THIS?

If you load the CD and copy the files to a folder on your hard drive, say "Wedding pictures" for instance. If you then double click on a file within the folder when it has been copied, if you use Windows as your OS. it should automatically show the pictures within a programme called "Windows Media Player"
You should then be able to find your way around the files or pictures. Pictures on computers are in fact just files in jpg or tiff etc.
Hope this helps.

Deleted pictures on my samsung nv10

We should refer to an expert in this case. Although i am not so sure if the pictures can still be retrieved in digicam cases or if it is somehow similar to deleted file retrieval in PCs where there is still a possibility of "undeleting".

Deleting Pictures and replacing them with new ones automatically!!! (HELP!!)

Normally no camera has the custom setting for automatting deletion of pictures. So, I fear you can't do anything by changing setting in the setup . The only possiblity may be curropted firmware of the camera, or the least chance is due to some virus in the card. try using another card with low storage capacity and see wheather the camera behaves the same after the card is full. this exercise may give you some help.
