Look on the each end of the motor. If you see a rubber plug that you can remove then it can be oiled. More than likely you will find none. The vast majority of electric motors today are sealed for life and there is no provision to add oil.

The unit is not drawing water from the air

Mary,
There is a recall on Whirlpool dehumidifiers that may cover your unit, the website lists serial numbers of units on the recall list.
Dehumidifier Recall FAQs
I assume from your question that at least the fan is running. There are many reasons why a dehumidifier is not removing water from the air. Most likely is accumulation of dust and pet hair that restricts the air flow. If you can, unplug it, take off the covers and vacuum out all the dirt from the evaporator and condenser (little radiator like parts). This website has some good blow up pictures of how it is put together and part nomenclature:
WHIRLPOOL DEHUMIDIFIER Parts Model AD25J3 SearsPartsDirect
If the air flow is restricted, the compressor has to work harder to the point that the overload gets tripped. It may or may not be resettable; it is part #10 in the diagram on this page:
http www searspartsdirect com Whirlpool Dehumidifier Parts Model AD25J3...
If you do take the covers off, check that the fan turns freely and you may want to add a drop of oil to each end of the motor if there is a place to oil it. Light oil like sewing machine oil or light engine oil will do.
You cannot really tell if the compressor is working with all of the covers on; and I cannot recommend plugging it in with covers removed because there may be open electrical connections that you do not want to touch. However if the compressor is running, the outlet tube will get hot; that is the one that goes to the condenser [radiator like bundle of tubes nearest the fan] [it may get too hot to touch]. The evaporator [bundle of tubes farthest from the fan] should start to get cold where the tiny little tube from the condenser joins. If neither is happening and you are sure the compressor is running, it is out of refrigerant [freon] and may or may not be worth fixing. If the evaporator ices up [gets covered with frost] it may be low on refrigerant indicating a leak; again it may not be worth fixing.

Model # 5641 dehumifier- how do you remove the cover to oil the fan?

Pull the humidistat dial off. Remove two screws on the bottom of the front panel. Pull the panel off from the bottom. There are two tabs on the top that will come out when the panel is rotated approximately 45 degrees. There are two oil ports on the top of the motor. Reverse the process to rerassemble the dehumidifier.

MY DEHUMIDIFIER COMPRESSOR SOUNDS LIKE IT IS RUNNIN BUT, THE FAN WHEN ENERGISED IS TIGHT & WILL NOT RUN. WHEN NOT ENERGISED THE FAN SPINS FREELY. SHOULD i REPLACE THE FAN MOTOR???

Definitely sounds like the thing to do. However, before you do that, try lubricating the fan motor shaft with some light oil (like sewing machine oil). That may free it up.

Whirlpool DEHUMIDIFIER Model - AD70USS1 does fan NOT does not cycle off anymore in the low settings as it should

According to the Owner's Manual for your model, the fan will run continually, if the unit is set in continuous mode or if the unit is in defrost mode. Once the unit senses a rise in the humidity level, the compressor will start up again. Also, a dirty or clogged air filter will cause the fan to run more that it should.

Hope this helps you troubleshoot and solve the problem.

My dehumidifier makes squeaking noises when running. How do I stop this?

Hi,

With the unit unplugged, open the cover and check the alignment of the fan. If the fan is stuck or rubbing against the fan cowling, adjust the fan motor's mounting hardware so that the fan turns freely.

Take care.

How do I oil and Clean the Whirlpool dehumidifier Model AD0402XS

I like to take my dehumidifer outside, rinse it off with water, scrub it with soapy water, and rinse.

Then I take compressed air and blow it off let it dry in the sun. While I have it apart I will put a drip or two of oil on the fan shaft.

Be careful anytime you remove a cover you are exposed to sharp edges!

Whirlpool dehumidifier model AD25G0

Your problem appears to be in the power supply from the control circuit to the fan motor. Your owners manual has an 800 number to the Whirlpool hot line for customer assistance.

Fan not working

THE FAN MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE OILING PORTS ON THE MOTOR. IF NOT, THE MOTOR NEEDS REPLACED. IF THERE ARE OILING PORTS ON THE FAN MOTOR, TRY SPRAYING SOME WD-40 IN THEM AND THEN ADDING SOME LIGHT MACHINE OIL TO THE MOTOR. THE OILING PORTS ARE SMALL HOLES AT EACH END OF THE MOTOR WHERE THE MOTOR SHAFT EXITS THE MOTOR HOUSING.
