My GE Hotpoint frig is making a low grinding noise all the time. It sounds like it might be a water pump that never shuts off. It is also making ice until the freezer door pops open and I have to empty the ice bin. Can I do something about this myself or do a need a service call? Sound is driving me crazy. Husband can't hear it. Thanks, Diana

You drain has frozen up probably because of a clog. Take the bottom door out and right at the rear bottom of the freezer back in the middle you sill see a drain. When the freezer goes in deefrost the frost will melt on the evaporaterr lines and must go down under the freezer yours does not and when the freezer comes on that water freezes. next time it defrost it heats that ice and the melted water come out the front of he door. clean that drain.

Water pooling on top shelf in refrigerator with top freezer

Hi,

Your drain is obstructed within the freezer compartment causing the water to floe into to lower section via vent ducts. To correct this, you will need to access the rear wall of the freezer and at the bottom you will find the drain hole. Remove the obstruction with warm water and remove all the ice also.

Good Luck

Water pooling at bottom, how do I find out why?

Water is pooling at the bottom of your refrigerator because the drain in the freezer is clogged, probably with ice. You need to turn of the refrigerator and empty the freezer. Remove the cover in the bottom of the freezer by first removing the back cover of the freezer and then the bottom cover. You will probably see it full of ice. Remove this ice by chipping, or if you have time, let it thaw. Then, located the drain in the back of the compartment below the coils, and thaw it. You can use a hair dryer for this. Eventually, you will see the water drain, and you can dry everything up and put it back together. You should have no more problems. If you do, then you need to look at testing the defroster.

What causes water to pool on the top shelf?

Hello

It is caused by a clogged defrost drain in the freezer compartment of your refrigerator

To fix this you will need to empty your refrigerator and unplug it.

Remove the back panel of the freezer and look under the cooling coil, you will see a frozen drain

pour hot water on the drain hole until water flows freely through the drain to the bottom pan..

That's it

How to tell the model number

Is it coming out under the vegetable drawer? We just had a problem with water dripping down into the freezer. Check the drain at the lower back left of the refrigerator, above the bottom shelf to see if it is plugged. Water will be pooling there. If it is, use a turkey baster and warm water to flush it out.
I never found the serial number for our unit but used the model number from the manual.

The top of the inside of my 2002 Whirlpool refrigerator Model ET1FTK (top mount)is frozen and is dripping onto the first shelf.

Hello,

The cause of that drip is going to be a blocked defrost drain in the freezer and the water from the defrost is pooling up in the freezer then when it can't hold anymore it's dripping through the vent in the ceiling of the refrigerator onto the shelfs. By removing the back wall of the freezer you could find the drain on the bottom of the freezer coil. By GENTLY peircing that frozen drain at a 45 degree angle until a small hole is formed in the built up ice it could be totally flushed using warm water once a small opening is made in the ice in the drain.

Ice and water on the bottom shelf of my sears Kenmore regular refrigerator. things are cold but water pooling on the bottom shelf.it is a Kenmore freezer on top and refrigerator on the bottom

Drain stopped up. Defrosting occurs and condensation water must be evacuated, this is done through a dran hole. Clogged drain means water inside under crispers messy all that luv. Find the drain hole and give her a good old clean out. All will be good.

Water pools at bottom of freezer, freezes and water leaks out

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove bottom shelf from fridge and remove the styrofoam..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curatain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the Freezer is because the water has been leaking into the freezer instead of running into the drain hole...Please feel free to comment again if you need any further assistance.
