Question about Sony KDF-E55A20 55 in. LCD Television

Sony Grand wega KDF-E50A10

When we turn on the TV it tkakes about 2 minutes for the picture to come on. When the picture does come on it has vertical lines acorss the whole picture. Also cannot change channel and volume by remote or on the TV.

I have the same problem on my sony LCD rear projection TV. I turn it on and there are vertical lines of varying colors across the screen, no sound, the only thing the tv responds to from local or remote controls are the power button and the Up arrow on the remote, which is used to trigger a factory reset sequence (according to the manual). Reset doesn't help. The bars slowly start to go away on the screen and usually the TV works the next day. It'll work for a few days a flake out again.

Have the same issue. The channel still displays behind the lines (a whole lot of them...vertical...red yellow and blue). You can barely make out the picture behind. When the input is unplugged, the lines remain so it is not the source...it is the TV. It is 1.5 yrs old...model KDFE50A10.

Yes, i have the very same problem. Last night I turned on my tv and find the problem described by the other user. Vertical colored lines onthe screen and no response to the buttons on the tv and the remote. Only images from the s-video source can be barely seen. No other sources display any image.

My tv's model is: KDF-E42A10. Manufactured in july 2005, buyed in october 2005.

Has anyone with this issue actually had their TV serviced?? I'm trying to decide to service or replace. It's a shame to trash a 2 yr old TV. Thanks.

Unfortunately the B Box assembly needs to be changed in these and price of the part alone is more than half the cost of a new tv

My Sony Grand Vega (KDF-E50A10) LCD just made a loud pop sound and now there is no picture. The only sounds are a loud buzzing coming from the back....is this a burned out lamp??

Yes, loud pop sound was broken lamp in tv, replacement of lamp will fix tv problem.

This is caused by a failure of the optical block of your TV. The only way to fix the issue is to replace the whole optical block which is very expensive ($1000+) and time consuming (need to take whole TV apart to replace the part).

The optical block in your model had inherent issues and there is currently a class action lawsuit pending against Sony for this issue. Up to date information reguarding the lawsuit can be found here: http://www.sonya20tvclassaction.com/main/home.sfx

Some of these models have this problem from production.
I would recommend to contact SONY and tell them the problem they may be able to fix your TV at no cost, since some of their Light engines have a recall but I'm not sure if your model number is one of those.

If you want to fix the TV yourself you need to replace the light engine and that requires advanced skills for this product

hope that was helpful
thank you
