Printer head does not move scan and alarm lights flashes

This printer head should move to the center of the carrage once printer is opened to change ink for example. I have to manually move it and it does not move back to position when you close the printer or even if you power on and off the printer the check printer message comes up with code 5110.

Hello welcome to Fixya, please go to the manufacturer website and download the latest drivers for your printer. You should also make sure that the printer is free of dust and you should also check to make sure that nothing is stock up in the printer because that can stop it from moving.

Thanks for the reply, the printer seem to have an hardware problem since you have to move it by hands this mean it may be worn and you need to be replace.

Your document or paper that you were scanning is stuck in the Tray passage (If you fed the paper from the Sheet Fed), Please turn off the Printer and Power on, if possible open the scanner base and pull out the paper. Do let me know if you still have problem or the document was fed from the Flat Bed. (I would like to request to let me know the color of the led that is blinking) Good luck. Thanks for using FixYa.

Printer fault

The Canon Pixma IP 4000 printer has a self-diagnosing print head error notification system. Generally the "Alarm/Power" light will flash and tell you what kind of problem you might be having with your print head.
You can also run tests yourself to identify problems.

Look at the "Alarm/Power" light and see how many times it's flashing.
If it flashes orange 11 times consecutively, that means there is a print head alignment issue. Perform deep cleaning, then move the printer away from any strong light sources.
To deep clean, click the Maintenance tab in the "Printers" folder.
Then click the "Deep Cleaning" icon. You can select all colors, black, or selected colors. Click on "Execute."
If it flashes orange five times consecutively, that means there is a print head error.
Reseat the print head, then reset the printer.
To reseat the print head, make sure the printer is on.
Open the paper output tray and top cover.
Make sure the print head holder is in the center and open the inner cover. remove all the ink tanks.
Raise the print head lock lever and remove the print head.
Reseat the print head and lock the lever.
Replace the ink tanks.

Check to see if the ink is ejecting normally from the print head nozzles by running a test.
Press and hold the "Resume/cancel" button.
When the Power lamp flashes twice, release the button.
Examine the printed output.
Use the references below to compare your output to what Canon suggest is correct.
If the output is incorrect, then perform deep cleaning, if necessary repeat twice.

Replace the ink tanks if you're unable to get a good result by following the previous steps. make sure the printer is on, lift the top cover.
The print head holder will move to the center.
Press on the tab to release the tank.
Unwrap a new tank.
Make sure you can see the air hole and insert the new tank until you hear a firm click.
Repeat for the other tanks if you suspect from your print test that they have failed.

I have a Canon MultiPass MP730 that is flashing the Alarm and reads cartridge jammed. However I can move the cartridge manually. The machine won't do anything because of the alarm. How do I fix this?...

To fix this you first need to remove the ink and the print head.
Wash the 4 ink pads in luke warm water.
Keep running the water over the bottom of the print head until the water shows no sign of ink colouration.
Make sure all of the print head is completely dry before replacing it into your printer.
After restarting your printer you will probably see the alarm light still flashing.
Now hold your finger on the resume button for up to 2 minutes or until you hear a clunking sound.
Hold your finger on this button and the printer will fix itself and the alarm light will stop.

My MX700 canon printer is flashing the on ff green light and the gold alarm light and say error code 6A80. My book says to unplug all power and the plug back in but it is doing the same thing. Thanks for...

The printer head has locked itself and won't move.
I have found a solution for you on the Internet - here are the details :-

I was able to unlock the print head - just with a small piece of foil.
Cut a 3-5cm wide stripe from a sheet of overhead-foil (90um thickness), move it below the print head, and move it to the front and upwards, to the back and upwards. Remove the foil. After switching the printer on - it will work as before and be able to move the head. No need to disassemble the whole MX700!

Leo.

Canon PIXMA iP4600 - error 6A80

Hello someone else here had this problem, this is what he posted: "Same problem with a Canon MP540 fresh from the box. Turned out to be the print head unit was not returning fully to the home position ie extreme right. My Fix : When the scanning unit cover is raised the print head unit moves left for access, look in the vacated area to the right, in particular the small black sponge where the head normally parks. I found a small spring jammed in beside the sponge, removed it and all is well. Don't know what the spring was meant to do but everything is working fine without it.On the MP540 the head unit now glows red, presumably meaning all is well... "

Cannon mx 310 error 5100 Says chck printr with alarm light flashi

heres the problem from service manual: error 5100, a error occured in your encoder signal, it list 4 things in the serice manual.
carriage unit. carriage motor, logic board, timing **** film.
ok my first thing i would look at is the film that runs directly behind the print head i would think it is dirty. just turn on printer and get print head to the middle and turn off machine, gentle move print head to one side and gentle clean the film strip with a cloth with a little metho on it, move print head to other side and clean other part of ****.
i reckon that will fix your problem its a common problem they tend to get a bit of grease on the timming ****.
