I have an HP lapto with Window Vista home premium. I bought it in december 2008. for the past year I am in Afghanistan and have no internet connection. but I did downloaded lots of movies, songs and files from others hard drive and memory sticks. Now, 2 problems. First about 2 months ago happened and eversince the same is going on and that is the computer get connected to internet via wifi or cable (tryed it when vacation last month) but the browser does not open or display any sites giving me the diognostic window which doesn't do anything. so I can not get connected to internet. now the second problem that occured latly. when I start it, it gets turned on and a second later a window comes on saying that window explorer can not be run and give me 2 choices to check and fix it on line or close the program. In either cases it turnes the screen off for about 15 second and the same window appears again. while this window is on all other icons are disabled and can not be clicked on. so some one told me to just connect it to internet and ahtomatically will be solve but I can get connected to online. What is my problem ? Many guys stated they are computer wiz but could not fix it. they checked antiviruses, firewalls, explorer ad on and etc but not fixed. Now I pass it to you guys and hopefully some one guide me the right path. ( I can get cable connection for an hour or so maybe and hopefully)
Wow.............
First, I'd try to download and install AVG from Filehippo.com. You may have to get a mate to download to a USB drive for you and install from there.
Run the anti virus programme (AVG) clean out any virus' you may have contracted.
Next, I'd try a system restore (Start - All programmes - Accessories - System Restore) it maybe a little different for Vista but it is there.
When restoring, restore to a point over 2 months old or before you had any problems.
If that doesn't work, back to the USB, try downloading and installing IE8 from Microsoft.
After that, we're looking at restoring windows by re-installing. Before doing that, offload any data you want to keep to DVD's etc.
Good Luck.
