Question about Dell Inspiron 6400 Notebook

1 Answer

I cannot understand the answer

When I turn on my Dell Inspiron 1540, I get the following message:
"The Dell wireless WLAN card is still disabled. Slide the wireless on/off switch to enable it." OK, but where in the $#@% is the switch to slide. Someone answered that it's on the right side of the computer. I can't see anything but the DVD tray. How about a picture of where this thing to slide is located?

Thanks,

R. S. Rose

If you don't use WLAN you may turn it OFF from within the BIOS.

I'm sorry, but I do not understand what you mean. What are BIOS? How do I get to them? And how do I turn them off?

Please lead me through this step by step.

You don't what a BIOS is, and you wish to repair it yourself? Go to Dell.com and search for BIOS or use google. Then I'll tell you step by step. Don't mean to be rude but a tech can't help you repair your stuff unless you have the skills to carry it out.

Well thank you very much for being such a computer snob!!

  • rsrose Jun 06, 2010

Even you had to learn at one time. By the way, I could correct your bad English, but will will do the same to you as you've done to me. That is, you should take a class in elementary English grammar before answering online questions.

What do you want? I only told you to learn what a BIOS is and you call me a snob??? Now where are your manners? You aren't paying me a dime and I'm still willing to help you out so how does that make me a snob?

  • For that you need to check bios settings.
When you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or del or ALT+f2 to enter in bios.
Then check all menu Configuration of Wlan and enable it because it is disable in bios so you see message when start computer.
So enable WLAN in bios with above method then that message not comes and you can use wifi.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Wlan card failure

Hi,
If you are getting the above error message , the same could because of two reasons .1. the wireless card is loose 2. the wireless card has gone bad.

Try re-seating the wireless card and then check. Steps on how to do the same are given below

I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 that has a Microsoft Windows Error message that will not go away even when closed. It says "Dell Wireless WLAN Card Wireless Network Controller stopped working and was closed"....

Try Deleting the wireless card from Device Manager.

Beware though, if you do this all your wireless settings, such as network names and keys, will probably be deleted as well.

Then right click on the name of your computer and click scan for changes and that will then reinstall the card. Can't say it will help but it's woth a shot.

Can not connect to internet using wireless

Did you input the WEP key? I will assume you are using Windows XP. So go to control panel, network connections and then go to the wireless connection and then select view wireless connections double click on the one with the highest strength, which should be your 2wire. When it asks for the network security key type in the numbers that are located on the sticker on the bottom of your router between the [########] brackets.
