It's the big silver round battery on the motherboard, just replace it.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

When I turn my compaq CQ56 on it says press esc for startup menu then I when I hit the esc button it just makes a humming noise

The motherboard of your laptop can't detect the Windows boot loader: either the Hard disk died and it no longer communicates with the BIOS or the motherboard itself has failed. To find out which press F10 while the laptop starts to enter the BIOS and see in there is the disk is still recognized.
You can replace the disk and then reinstall everything or , if that fails, the entire motherboard will have to be replaced. The replacement procedure of the board is very complicated, only a repair shop will be able to do it.

I cannot get a sata 500gb hard drive to work on my nforce3 - a939 board

Verify that SATA is enabled in the motherboard bios. If the drive is new, you will need to go into disk management and set it up for use.

Motherboard seems to have failed

I suggest you take a look on newegg.com catalog, it provides a lot of information on the products such as, but not limited to, size of the motherboard and full specs of it.
You need a Motherboard which is in the Micro ATX size range
(which goes from about 17x17cm to about 24.5x24.5cm) check Micro ATX models to find one that fits your needs.
you can buy the motherboard directly from newegg or fid the model you like and buy it somewhere else.

CPU Fan connector

Hi vinbren,

There is probably an option in your system setup (BIOS) that will disable the CMOS from detecting a dead fan. While you may be putting yourself in harm's way should the fan actually die and the shutoff mechanism is thereby disabled, it sounds like since you're using an auxiliary connector this wouldn't apply to you anyway.

Check the BIOS setup (generally accessed by pressing F1, F2, F10, del, or ESC when the system first POSTs) for hardware monitoring and see if you can turn it off.

I replaced motherboard and can't boot-up

When you say posts, I assume it can get to the BIOS setup screen. Does it recognize any of the HD's? Your ATA controller or SATA controller may not be enabled. I wonder if the Windows installer detects a major hardware change and refuses to work under their obsurd anti-piracy policy.

ECS Nforce3 A Powers down

Doubt its the bios. Did you install the sata drivers during boot? When u say it powers down does it just switch off or blue screen first?

I lost my manual on hooking up the wiring on my nforce3-a motherboard.

Chances are, you can download the manual from the website of the manufacturer. That's probably the smart move. Last thing you want to do is try and do connections without it. That's a quick way to go through more than one.
