Question about HP VP6121 Multimedia Projector

Hp VP121 needs new bulb?

I went to power up my projector tonight. When I turned it on it made the typical sounds but the light didn't go on. No picture on the screen. The power button flashed and the bulb icon light lit up. I haven't had any warning that my bulb may be used up. I'm not sure of the hours nor can I power it up to check. I'd like to be sure it's the bulb before I drop 300 on a new one. Any suggestions? Thank you.

I have the same problem, except that when i turn mine on, it will come on for a few seconds, and then shut down and turn the bulb light on. I bought a new bulb because I assumed this was the problem, and this bulb worked fine (with poorer than usual pic quality) for about 2 1/2 weeks, then the screen flickered, the fan got real loud, and the projector died again. Does that mean anything to you Marrie?

I'm not convinced the bulb is blown.
I have a working VP6121, but the bulb seems a bit dim. I read of some fault on a similar projector going into standby and not turning the bulb on, so I tried a little experiment.
I removed the bulb, and turned the projector on.
Nothing - except for a very feint slow clicking coming from within.
The projector did not turn on, nor did it go into standby.
The bulb assembly only contains 2 contacts, with NO interlock.
So, it would seem that turning the projector on from cold, with no bulb or with a blown bulb, the VP6121 does nothing.
Hope that helps.

Whilst doing some browsing, I discovered that the HP VP6121 series of projectors are remarkably similar to the BenQ PB8120 and PB8220 projectors - in fact, almost identical.
On this Fixya web-site, you may find a solution to the powering-up problem by going here http://www.fixya.com/support/p190458-ben...

In summary, it seems the power-off sequence has a lot to do with the problem.
    Hope this helps.

Hi there

Take out the lamp and check for any marks on the inside ( shaft ) of the lamp. If there is marks or discolouration on it then you can be 100% sure it is the lamp.

I pickd up my prjector while it was on. i turned it over an i head a POP and all the lights went on so i pulled the plug now it wont turn on... what is the prob?

The POP sounds typically means the project bulb blew (just like a typical light bulb). You can take it into a repair shop to have the bulb replaced.

Sounds like you lamp ballast has gone bad. I good way to verify this is, when you press power on the projector look inside the lens. If you see a small amount of light, then the ballast is good, and the lamp is bad. If there is no light then chances are the ballast is bad.

firdt off, did you reset the lamp counter? did you clean the dust out of the projector? it may be overheating as well. if the lamp looks ok, you may have just blown the ballast. try projector doctor online.

is the led on the top of the projector blinkng at all? if there is no led lit, the fuse on the power supply may be blown or the power supply itself needs replacing. turn the projector on. you should hear the fans and a high-pitched whir. if you don't hear that whir or it sounds like a noisy motor, the colorwheel needs replacing. if it sounds good but no light, make sure you have the correct lamp. the x1a takes the sp-lamp-009 lamp. it should have 2 white wires, each at opposite ends of the plug. if you have a lamp with a red wire and a white wire, you have a lamp for an x2. also make sure the lamp door is closed completely. if the door is closed (hitting the switch), the lamp is correct, the led is green, and the sounds are good and it still does not light, the ballast is bad and needs replacing.

No display from projector

try resetting the lamp timer. if that doesn't work: listen for a high pitched whir when you power it on. if you don't hear it, the colorwheel needs replacing. if you do hear it and it doesn't light, the ballast is bad and needs replacing.
