Hi. I believe there's an ATA-to-SATA converter/adapter/dongle available. Try checking with bestbuys' and hope you find one.

It should look something like this:

Good Luck!!! ^_^

Based on what I have read about the HPdc5100MT motherboard it only supports SATA hard disk. Not sure how you are able to use a 80GB IDE.

See configurations from HP at this website. All hard drives are mentioned as SATA.

There are IDE to SATA adapters and cables, such as this one linked below. IDE to SATA Adapter
You would simply plug this adapter into the available IDE connection on your motherboard, then use the SATA data and power cable to connect from the adapter to the CD/DVD drive. You can look around online for similar products, but they should get the job done!

You would have to buy a IDE/ATA 2.5" Hard Drive at 4200 rpm.

You can buy a 80GB one here.

The model number is Seagate ST9808210A

Its about $56 dollars.

You can not use a sata converter on the motherboard.

Did not detect the additional sata hard disk?

Have you tried connecting the SATA hard-drive to a different computer, just to prove that it is not a "dud" ?

Is the SATA hard-drive getting power?
(It should warm-up a bit, and you make feel it vibrate as it spins.)

Have you tried a different SATA cable between the hard-drive and the SATA connector on the motherboard?

Check the BIOS settings, to be sure that detection of SATA drives is "enabled".

Check your AHCI (or ACHI, can't remember) settings in your BIOS. Turn them off, use "standard pata mode" even though you're using a SATA drive, and try again.

ASUS K8S-MX Motherboard, but when I connect IDE

How were the partitions created on the SATA? Are they RAID configured from the other system? Does the new motherboard have the same support for your HD as the other system? Check the setup in the BIOS screen on both systems to make them identical as much as you can. According to Tom's Hardware: "In the SATA port configuration place you have up to four "mode" choices: IDE (or PATA) Emulation, native SATA, AHCI, or RAID." Check this section. Formating hardisk with sata connection

1) Be sure that your motherboard support SATA - See Bios

2) Using the Win XP installation CD you can format the drive. If you cannot load windows during the installation hit F6 to charge the SATA drivers.

If your sata drive is working like a second disk, you can format it directly from windows.
Start>> Control Panel >> Admistrative tools >> Computer Management

Or using any partition tools...
