Click onto the Lexmark tab you have in your computer and run dianogstics on it to clean the print head. Now if any printer has ran out of ink and left not used for more than one day the head must be cleaned first with denatured alcohol

This sounds odd. Anyway, if printer prints, there's nothing wrong with printer detection.

First and foremost, what type of paper and color of paper are you using? What text/image color do you have in your file being printed?

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.

Missing lines of print

hello
You either have to change the ink cartridge or try to clean the ink cartridge nozzles as described in the user manual;
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/924/en/om_en/om_en.pdf
On page 54 it states the following:

To clean the ink cartridge nozzles:
1 Load plain paper. For more information, see "Loading Paper" on page 19.
2 In Windows XP, click Start-Control Panel-Printers and Other Hardware-Printers and
Faxes.
In Windows 2000, click Start-Settings-Printers.
3 Right-click the Dell Photo AIO Printer 924 icon.
4 Click Printing Preferences.
The Printing Preferences dialog box opens.
5 Click the Maintenance tab.
6 Click Clean Print Cartridges.
7 If the print quality has not improved, click Print Again.
8 Print your document again to verify the improved print quality.
9 If you are not satisfied with the print quality, wipe the ink cartridge nozzles, and then print
your document again.

hope this helps.

Photos printed come out faint and lines andblack streaks across the photos how do i solve this/

lean The Print Head Nozzles (Windows) The following contains instructions to check the nozzles for poor print quality and perform cleanings of the print head nozzles as necessary. If print results are faint or streaks are printed, the print head nozzles may be clogged. Print quality can be improved by performing print head cleanings or print head deep cleanings. aution: Only used the approved methods below to clean the print head. Use of other methods may further clog the nozzles on the print head and may cause permanent damage the print head.
Note: It is important to check the cleaning results by printing Nozzle Check Pattern after each cleaning. Cleaning and Deep Cleaning consumes a certain amount of ink. Only perform a cleanings when necessary.
Print a Nozzle Check Pattern
  1. Confirm that the printer is connected to the computer and the printer is turned on.

  2. Complete or cancel any print jobs in progress.

You will need to update the driver.

Try the Print Nozzle check pattern. This will check whether ther is any defect with the printer or not.

Turn off the printer.
Press and hold the power button until you hear a beep.

This will print the Check pattern.
Open the top cover and visually check the level of ink in the tanks.
If the ink is not empty the clean the printer heads.
Try the check pattern and clean the printer head for about 3 times.

If this does not help then try print head deep cleaning.
This will be available in the print option in windows.

If this does not help then it isn advisable to change the BJ cartridge.

Have you removed the tear off tape from top of cartridges, it lets the air in and ink flows.

Printing

Open the top of the printer and remove all of the ink catridges. Be careful to place them upright and on top of some newspaper. Lift the lever to the left of the print carriage all the way up until it stops. It should come to rest staight up. You may now remove the print head by rocking it forward first and lift it out. Place the print head in a small container that does not allow for much room on any of the sides. Pour rubbing alcohol into the container and submerse the print head until the intake screens are covered. Gently agitate the container for a few minutes and remove the print head...placing it onto newspaper or paper towels. You may use a cotton tip applicator (Q tip) and gently rub each of the intake screen for each color. Turn the print head over and clean off the applicator portions of the print head (Copper looking with slots). Be careful to not leave any debris on any of the surfaces. Tap the print head onto the paper towel softly to remove any excess alcohol. If you notice a lot of ink still oozing from the bottom of the print head you may repeat the soaking and blotting process several times. After you are satisfied that most of the ink is desolved and dislodged from the print head, wipe all the suface with a clean paper towell to insure the contacts, etc. are clean. Replace the print head into the printer and lower the lever to lock the print head into position. Replace each of the colors in the correct locations and choose the deep clean option either on the menu of the printer or on the maintenance options on your computer (Start, settings, printer, properties, maintenance). Try the deep cleaning option to insure the inks are flowed through the print head and then print a test alignment page. If you still continue to have problems with some of the colors or streaking you may need to replace the print head. There are several companies on-line that sell this item and it runs $50 or more. I have refilled my own print cartridges several times and sometimes incur problems from using them too many times...so they also may need to be replaced with new(er) cartridges.

Canon BJC 4300 InkJet Printer

i assume the cleaning method that you perform is offline (taking the cartridge our and clean them). I suggest you clean the head during the printer on.. try to perform below steps per the manual Cleaning the printer Printing the test pages Cleaning the print head I assume you do not have the manual anymore (no DVD) i list down the step below Its a bit long manual I suggest you download them from the canon website.. if you still have problem I can send to you the BJC 4300 manual Cleanning printer Make sure the printer is turned off before cleaning it. It is a good idea to unplug the AC adapter also. Do not clean the exterior of the printer with volatile liquids such as thinners, benzine, or any spray-type or chemical cleaners; doing so will damage the surface of the printer. When cleaning the printer, avoid the area near the print head on the BJ cartridge. Do not touch the print head. Ink may leak out and cause stains. Clean the printer regularly to avoid printing problems. Remove any ink mist or paper debris from the interior of the printer using a soft cloth moistened with water. Clean especially well around the platen area. If the rollers become dirty, you can clean them using a small soft brush. Clean the exterior of the printer with a soft cloth moistened with water. Clean away smudges and dust. Do not use paper products (such as paper towels or tissues) to clean the inside of the printer. Printing the Test Pages You can print these test pages to check the operation of your printer and your print quality. Test A This test prints a repeating pattern of characters. Demonstration This test prints a sample page describing the printer's features. Printing the Test Page From Windows You use the Test option on the Control tab in your BJC-4300 Printer Driver for Windows to print a self test, demonstration page, or a nozzle test pattern. Before selecting a Test option, make sure paper is properly loaded in the sheet feeder (see Automatically Feeding Paper starting on page 3-7). Click on the Test option and then click on the Print button. Printing the Test Pages Using the Operators Panel To print a test page, make sure the printer is turned off and paper is loaded. Press and hold the POWER button until you hear the number of beeps that correspond to the test page you want to print. Using a smallersize paper for a self-test print will result in parts of the printoutbeing printed directly on the platen. All self-test prints are printed in accordance with the current printing settings (font, printing mode, etc.) *Red- Information for technician not included in the user manual Cleaning the Print Head Your printer is equipped with a print head cleaning function to ensure constant high quality printing. Cleaning the Print Head From Windows If you are using Windows, you can execute print head cleaning from the Control sheet in the printer driver. Simply click on Clean Ink Head. 4300 Chapter 4 Page 6 Cleaning the Print Head Using the Operators Panel If you want to clean the print head from the operator panel, follow these steps: 1 Make sure the printer is turned on. Make sure the green POWER light is on. 2 Press and hold the RESUME button for at least two seconds until the printer beeps twice. The POWER light will blink for several seconds while the print head is being cleaned. Perform the print head cleaning only when you encounter a print quality problem.
