Question about Garden

1 Answer

McCulloch Promac 555 starts and immediately dies due to deep pool of fuel surrounding carb(very rich). does not appear to be leaking around or through fuel line, or gasket between top and bottom of tank. i pulled the rope about twenty times after cleaning and adding fuel. immediately removed air cleaner and found about half an inch of fuel around carb. would a ruptured diaphram leak that much that fast or is it worse than a simple rebuild?

The diaphragm by itself can't leak as it is in a sealed chamber, but the fuel flow through the carburetor and past the fuel metering valve will not be controlled properly. Cleaning and a re-kit should put a stop to the flooding. Go to: http://www.drystacked.com for a 12 page article on Walbro brand carburetor theory and troubleshooting which applies to other brands of carburetor as well. Hope this helps!

Check the tank gasket again. In fact if you haven't replaced it recently, go ahead and replace it or repair with silicone. I have this same model

Somehow the rest of my comment was cut off. What I said was that this much fuel in the carburetor chamber was a strong indication of the fuel tank gasket failing. I had the same trouble ten years ago

Seems to have low spark, won't start floods easily

It would be helpful to know your routine when you try to start it. If you close the choke to start and it chugs like it wants to start but doesn't--take the choke off. You may want to remove the carb and clean it. A sonic cleaner is best

Promac 320x

use ONLY NON ethanol gas, and preferably high octane(89 or higher) Can also add 2 ounces of SeaFoam gas additive to keep the carb clean of varnish. Add it to a full tank, and never more, than 2 ounces. Can clean carb with carb cleaner, if you want to take it off and possibly take apart the carb. Buy a new carb , if that does not work.

Have 82 ford truck f150 runs for abut 5-15 mins than dies getin gas chang full pups two times same thant runs and die

Hmmm...maybe piston ring failure, valve seal failure, rich air/fuel mixture or maybe a head gasket (however that is normally white smoke due to coolant burning instead of oil). If it's so dark that it's almost blue then I can tell you that somehow oil is getting into the cylinder and burning alongside the air and fuel. Your best case scenario is that the engine is running rich (Rich:Too much fuel, Lean:Too much air) and the smoke is a dark grey to black color. CAUSES OF SMOKE

I have a Mcculloch 16in maccat 35cc chain saw

Does the chain turn freely by hand? Is it being oiled properly? Check the fuel filter, air cleaner, and muffler for plugging. Does 'feathering' the choke make any difference? If it helps, try turning the H jet needle CCW about 1/4 turn which should make it run more rich and 4-stroke until you are cutting which should immediately cause the engine to 2-stroke. Hope some of this helps!

I have a McCulloch 1-Inch 1 HP 26cc 2-Cycle Gas

There are two things to check for. One, vaccum might be created in the tank only allowing the unit to run a few minutes. If it starts to die after running a few minutes, removing the gas cap. If it keeps running, you need a new gas cap. Otherwise your problem is in the carb. It could be bad gas that was in there before or you have debris in the carb itself which only allows the unit to run on choke. Make sure if you have a fuel shutoff valve that it is on.

Sumthing is wrong with the carburator

hi,
to get a good combustion inside the engine, you(engine) needs fuel-air mixture, since it leaks fuel the mixture is too rich on air. Where does the carb leak? maybe it's just the connection that leaks...I mean where the fuel line connects to the carb, If it leaks there it also sucks in extra air instead of fuel, and therefor the engine doesnt run smooth, choke or no choke, that makes no difference. Check that and if it leaks there just change out the fuel line with a new hose.
It could also be the little rubber ring that seals of the carb, If it leaks from the top of the carb...it's the little ring. Take off the top of the carb and check the condition of the ring, if faulty.. replace it with a new one.
Hope this helps....can be pretty dangerous riding around with a leaking carb... Good luck, Gilbert.
