This issue could be due to presence of static charges or internal hardware malfunction of the notebook. To isolate the exact cause of the issue, perform the steps provided below.

Step 1: Hard Reset

To perform a hard reset, please follow the steps listed below:

1. Unplug the AC adapter from the notebook PC and remove from any port replicator or docking station.
2. Remove the battery from the notebook battery compartment.
3. Press and hold down the power button for about 20 seconds.
4. Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook PC.
5. Press the power button to turn the notebook PC back on.

This will discharge the static charges from the notebook. Now turn on the notebook and check for the issue. If the issue persists, then remove and reseat the memory modules of the notebook and check for the issue.

Step 2: Remove and Reseat the Memory Modules

You can refer the service manual provided below for information to remove and reseat the memory modules of the notebook.

Refer page no: 53 & 54
NOTE: PDF manuals require the Adobe Acrobat Reader for viewing and printing.
If the issue persists after the above steps, then this could be due to internal hardware malfunction of the notebook and requires a detailed onsite diagnosis by a service technician. If your notebook is covered under HP Standard Warranty, then I would request you to contact HP Support to get your notebook repaired under warranty.

I believe the information provided would be helpful to isolate the issue with your notebook.

When I hit the power button on my HP DV9000 it lights up as if it is powering on, then immediately shuts down. Any ideas?

Hi. It can be caused by many things like. Short circuit (Check all the connections) Maybe you dropped or hit your laptop The mother board is damaged if you still have the warranty call HP.(800-474-6836) Somehow the bios got corrupted, the solution to that can be restoring the Pc but you will lose all the files in it to do this press f8 or f10 when it is starring and follow the recovery steps.
Hope it helps. Good luck.

Computer will not turn on. All lights will light up when pressing power button but then shuts down immediately.

Did you change any settings in the Bios?

During reformat hp pavilion dv6-1251nr reboots and the screen goes blank, har drive seek light goes out

Shut down the computer.
Turn on the computer tapping F10 key on your keyboard.
You will see BIOS comming up.
Go to the option SMART and Run HDD Self Test.
If it passes then get another set of recovery disk for HP Pavilion.
If test fails, replace hard drive.

I have a hp pavilion dv5 notebook, my hard disk makes some funny sounds, doesnt boot to windows, i get this message harddisk (3f0). i can recover my files from the disk

Hi

you could try to hit the delete key when starting up the computer i think in there somewhere is an option to check disk to see if there is errors on it as i think it sounds like thats the problem

hopefully you have already saved any photos or files on cd ???

You could also take the hard drive out of the laptop then replace it to see if that helps it has been known to work

and you could try to restore back to factory settings by hitting the F11 key several times which the laptop is starting up if none of these things work then you may have to buy a new hard drive

I found this on another site which may be worth a read
