My HP usb drive- v165w cannot be opened, says its write protected and even unable to format the drive, which keeps saying write protected.

Hi. You must have used your usb ext drive from a different computer with a different OS. Try saving your files online and format your ext drive from the former pc you used it with then plug it in the new pc you want to use it with.

The USB driver installed by default. U need not have to install it separately. If it is not recognised then try to use it on another system, see whether it gets connected or not

Message saying write protected so unable to delete anything


Some time Virus / Trojans may act like this. For this download antimalware from www.malwarebytes.com.

After scanning the system completly

Try to format the drive..
