Hello,

When you power on the laptop, is there a sign that it boots? if yes, then it may be that the laptop did not shut don properly when last used, try the following, unplugged the power, took the battery out, held the power button for 60 seconds - then plugged back in the power cord and tried to boot it up like normal. or remove the battery and hold down the power button it would seem to be an issue with the laptop retaining some residual charge which is preventing the laptop from booting.

Check the status of your laptop battery itself. There should be a battery indicator on the laptop that is connected to the battery. This indicator is either on the bottom of the laptop or (likely) on the side. If there is no indicator, your battery itself may be the problem, and may require replacing. Keep in mind that older batteries of the nickel-cadmium variety are more likely to decharge over time and forget their initial maximum charge level; this may be a particular issue to users of older laptops.

Find a VGA connector and hook up your laptop to an external monitor if the above steps have not alleviated the blank-screen problem. Turn on the computer and the external monitor. Does the external monitor light up? If so, the blank screen is likely due to a video subset problem/LCD problem in your laptop.

Consider that a deeper problem may exist if the external monitor did not light up This problem may lie in the motherboard. In this case, you need to replace the mother board.

Take care.

Where to buy used mac notebook parts

ebay can be a good place. powerbookmedic.com is a pretty good place too. they have new and used parts (used parts aren't always available, however on a laptop this old, i would assume they have some) and also have videos and PDF files on step by step disassembly. I have found it to be a pretty good resource for apple repair. hope this helps:)

Can connect iPad and Mac Powerbook laptop to my Sony 36

Hi Jim
It's not on a channel, it's the RGB or VGA inputs. (check your "Source" menu on the TV). Works fine here. When the units are talking to the TV the screen on the unit will go blank. One thing. When using your iPad, tghe battery will go down faster than normal.

My 15" Powerbook G4 screen is half blank - it sometimes shows lines or has some blank spots but it's always gone away. This time it seems stuck. What to do?

Hi There,

If you can get your laptop connected to an external monitor it will do the main troubleshooting for you. With it connected and set to display on the monitor, the 2 options below are pretty solid;

1. If the monitor shows your nomal desktop display without any distortion or lines, etc, then you can be fairly certain your LCD screen panel on the laptop is just wearing out.

2. If the monitor shows exactly what the laptop does, i.e., same exact problems, then it means that the Video chip on the logic board is about to fail and you'll have todecide whether to repair or upgrade to a newer machine.

I wish you the best.

No screen on start up on g4 notebook

Try reinstalling MacOS on your laptop, as far as I know, all Mac come with recovery disks. To boot of off a disk, make sure the disk is in the drive , reboot the computer, and press C while the chime is playing. You SHOULD be able to reinstall. What your describing usually happens to very old iMacs that have bad, incompatible, or no RAM installed. If none of the above works, take it to an Apple Store, they were very helpful when my iPod had a bad battery

My computer would not charge. I have an appple powerbook g4. I bought a new battery. I put the battery in. It charges. Now the computr tries to turn on it makes the start up noises but the screen is blank....

Hi, sorry to hear you are having problems,
Are you saying that your Mac was working fine with the dead battery but then when you put in the new battery, the Mac died?
Well, if that is the case it might be possible that the battery ran down to ZERO and the mac's internal battery also is dead so, it does not even know what hard drive to boot into...
So, with the Mac Shut Down, hit the power on button and then VERY QUICKLY, press the ( alt ) key and hold it until you see a blue screen with a Big right pointing blue arrow and a circular arrow.
You can let go of the key, and the mac is now looking for suitable startup volumes to boot from...
You should see your harddive appear after a minute or so... If it does not appear, then either your system is damaged or your disk is KAPUT...
How old is your Mac? It is very very common for PowerBook drives to die after 4 years without advanced warning... :(
Good luck

Powerbook G4 (1 GHz), 15" LCD glitchy

It could well be the ribbon cable between the screen and motherboard is knackered. Depends how brave you are at dismanteling computers, if you search on powerbook parts you may be able to find a company that scraps computers who could sell you the cable if it is a separate item otherwise it will be an expensive Apple repair!
