I have found a temporary solution to this problem. If you hold in the menu buttom on the tv with a strong tape, it will eliminate the message you are getting. This is just a temporary fix though!

The video output resolution probably changed on your cable box for some reason. try going to an hd or non hd channel to get a picture, then you can get to the menu and video output settings to set it to 1080i and 480p
samsungs hate 480i and thats probably where it reset to

let me know if this doesn't solve the issue

the menu is generated on the main or digital main board. this is an indication that something is wrong inside the tv... either with the main board, or something following that video signal on the path to the screen. could be a bad main board, lvds cable, or logic (plasma) or tcon (lcd) board
i would look for bad capacitors on the power supply.. many of these samsung tvs had bad caps and they cause a wide variety of symptoms

Samsung s5053, will not turn on. clicking noise inside, screen comes on and goes off. No picture. checked voltage on pin 10 get 5 volts connector cn804-1. research on internet seems to point at main...

Ken, did you ever find out what was wrong with your set and have it repaired?

I have the same "clicking" problem when first turn on the TV. First, it took about 30 secs clicking (came from the relay) then came on ok. The wait time gradually increased up to a few minutes before it comes on. Then, the power button was flashing blue light when the TV is off, but then came on ok after 3 - 5 minutes. Now it finally has no power at all.

I checked the stand by voltage at pin 10 of the CN804-1 connector and get nothing but a going spike voltage up and down on the multimeter. I noticed that one blue ceramic disc capacitor (the disc type, not the can type) was cracked and some black burned spots around it. May be it is the problem?

How much will it cost for a cracked screen

I have a customer with a Samsung HP-S5053 in which the power supply has blown, and may have caused system wide component failures.

Rather than potentially spending a great deal of money trying to get his TV back to life, I'm certain he would be interested in either...

A: buying your TV for the good electronics

or

B: selling you his TV with a good screen.

Please let me know if you're interested in this type of deal.

You may contact me via email at sales@boiselcd.com. My name is Chris.

It appears that the Main bd is bad. Try using Component cables instead of the HDMI cables and see if there is a change. If there is a change to normal picture then try another HDMI cable. If the problem returns then replace the Main bd. There three Main bds for this basic model number. You will need the version# found on the right side of the set to order the correct bd.

50" Samsung Plasma with black screen

I had the same problem and had the TV serviced and found that the y board was blown $350 total. The repair guy explained that the board has a hot transister underneath that slowly leaked onto the board, but says that they can not get Samsung to admit to the problem. Works fine now but only have a 90 day warrenty on the parts.

Try to adjust the Vscan or/and Vs down about 5-10V on the Power Supply board. If you got extended warranty, just let the warranty depot shop help you to do it.

For the "humming" noise, may need to replace the Power Supply board to fix it.

Plasma TV picture problem

Normallly, if the format button on the remote for the television does not achieve the desired affect, then, a cable box or a satelite box is where the change needs to be made. For example: A Motorola Cable box needs to be set up to go to a wide screen when an analog signal is detected. It's difficult to determine the repair without knowing the hook up of the peripherals. Hope this helps.
