Question about Hayward Navigator Pool Cleaner

1 Answer

The Hayward Navigator pool sweep does not move. The pressure is 7.5, the suction seems to be okay, and the "flippers" move, but the pool sweep just sits there.

You may need to replace the pads on the flippers. You can get new 'feet' for your cleaner at any dealer . They just pull off and press on, They go on only one way so check the tabs before you press them on.

My hayward navigator doesn't walk

not a problem with return pressure. navigators run off suction pressure. ensure proper suction from skimmer or designated suction line. then check the hose attached to navigator. put a new hose on, if this works then the hose was issue.....if no difference then replace the navigator

My hayward navigator pool sweep does not move. we have replaced feet and flaps. . . . .

The first question would be do you have the proper amount of suction to make it work. You didn't say if you had a dedicated vac line or if you plug into the skimmer. Can you reach through the hole in the bottom and spin the turbine easily with your finger. It may have eaten a rock and is stuck. If so, loosen the one screw on the bottom, pull off that plate, and you will be able to see what is jamming the turbine. One last test is to hold one of the pods firmly and then trying to move the other pod. It should not move anymore that a quarter inch or so. If it moves freely you have a broken "A" frame that will need to be replaced.

My Cleaner keeps stopping, if i move it along abit it starts again or if i briefly remove the hose from filter box it starts, seems to have too much suction and gets stuck on the pool floor

If you think that your pool cleaner has got too much suction, you need to use the included water flow gauge to test the water pressure. If it is MAX or higher than the indicated minimum, you will need to get a regulator valve from Hayware (V094). This will reduce your water flow.

Hayward Navigator just had shoes and wings replaced. Everything seems to be working but moves extremely slow, even when suction is increased.

Did you have the turbine and A-Frame inspected or the gear box at the back of the cleaner looked at? Hayward Navigators are 100% repairable and most every pool store carries every single part to make the repairs. If these parts are also worn down, you will notice performance issues with your cleaner.
Before we assume the worst, lets run the cleaner through a few inspections.
Simple Troubleshooting for your Hayward Navigator When It Is Not Moving

The most common reason the Hayward Navigator stops moving is there is something blocking the mouth of the cleaner. Pull the cleaner out of the water while the equipment is turned off and make sure the cleaner is not clogged with debris or plugged with a pool toy. Also, make sure that all the internal components are properly installed.

Not Enough Suction - Next, verify that there is enough suction to allow the cleaner to work properly. While the pool equipment is on, lift the Hayward Navigator to just below the surface of the water and feel to see if there is a reasonable amount of suction getting to the cleaner. If there doesn't seem to be enough pressure, make sure all baskets are clear of debris, the main pool filter is clean, and that the diverter valve is open to the pool cleaner.

Small Debris Inside the Navigator - If there seems to be enough suction getting to the Navigator, but the pods are not moving back and forth, there is probably some small debris inside the cleaner that is stopping the turbine from moving. In order to remove any debris from inside the cleaner, remove the small access cover from the bottom of the cleaner by loosening the one screw until the plate pulls off. Use your fingers or the hose to clean the inside of the cleaner out.

If following these simple troubleshooting tips doesn't correct your cleaner issue, there is probably a mechanical issue. Take your cleaner into a local swimming pool retailer or have a service company out to assist (though most pool stores will not ever charge you for labor to make repairs!)

Hayward Navigator moves very very slowly. Pool Filter cartrage is clean & I have replaced the shoes, flippers, flaps & impeller bearings. Also tried different hose. Pressue on hose is about 12 to...

Make sure to keep the leaf canister and pump basket clear. Another thing to check is; make sure the screws that hold on the pods(the "flippers" on the sides) are Really tight. Those need to be cranked down pretty hard to ensure that they can move the cleaner along.

Vacum does't move,

If the unit is pulling water and the flippers are moving, try hold ing the flippers and see if you can keep them from moving. This is probally what you will find. It will mean that your "A" frame is worn, or the bearings on the rockers, or the cams on the paddle wheel are worn. All of witch can be looked at at your local pool store and usually they will only charge for the part's used. Good luck and write back if this doesn't fix it and we can go from there

I have a Sta-Rite Max-E-Glas II (1.5hp) Pool pump and a Hayward Navigator sweep. The sweep was working then stopped. Pulled it apart found bad bearings replaced them. Ran sweep again worked at first...

Is the pump leaking water? If you lost the prime or are having trouble priming then there would be an air leak somewhere on the suction side of the pump. Poor suction would interfere with the sweep. One way to ell if the pump or suction line(s) are leaking is to examine the inlet basket once the pump is primed. Any air left in there after a few minutes of operation once primed would indicate a leak in the suction/pump.

check the bearings on the turbine and "a" frames.
also make sure the left and right pods are tightened properly and the pod shoes are in good shape.

My navigator seems to stay primarily in the deep end. doesn't seem to be able to get to the shallow end.

Could be several things. If no blockage at inlet hole, feet are in good condition, springs in place and moving freely, etc., I would suggest too little suction. Use the gauge that came with the unit to check for acceptable level. If you don't have that, it will just be trial and error to get it right. Unfortunately, you can't set these once and expect them to remain functional. Suction is always changing depending on filter pressure (blockage), skimmer baskets full, etc..
