How to unclog a clogged print head on the Canon...

Using a cotton swap dip into some plain water and then drop a few drops of water onto the outlet of the ink cartridge [you will have to remove the ink cartridge and turn it upside down].

Also while the ink cartridge is still removed, drop a few drops of water onto the inlet orifice into which the ink goes. The orifice of the ink cartridge sits right on top of the inlet to the print head when the ink cartridge is fully installed.

After putting the water drops onto the ink cartridge and onto the inlet orifice of the print head, I did the 'clean' procedure as listed in the "Canon PIXMA iP4000 Properties" of the program on my PC. Then I did the deep clean procedure. After that I printed the print pattern and found that this technique worked quite well -- since before I had tried isopropyl alcohol which didn't work to unclogged these print heads.

When I had the blue print head get clogged [on my Canon iP4000 Pixma printer] and I tried this method. It worked immediately.

I hope it works for you too.

God be with you!

My printer is Canon ip4000 and it used to be okay until lately. There will be 5 flashes of orange light and then green light. I checked on the internet and it says that the ink head has problem. Each time...

Remove the cartridge and clean the head as well as the printer head with cotton&alcohol to remove dirt. Insert it again and have a long press on the resume button... Have a test print...

Only black ink won't print. Even with new black 3e and new black 6 cartridges.

The black ink is a pigment based ink, that is it consists of particles suspended in a solution. The colors are dye based and have no particles. This being the case when the black ink dries and clogs the print head the particles are left behind. I would suggest removing the print head and letting it sit on a paper towel moistened with warm distilled water. Do this on a surface that is both waterproof and disposable, i.e. a plastic disposable plate, since the hope is that ink will flow out. Let this sit for about 20 mins, reinstall print head, making sure the electrical contacts and clean and dry, then the cartridges and try cleaning cycles again. If still no luck replacement print heads are available at the address below.

Yesterday I got a message that the print head needed to be reinstalled. This morning when I turned on the computer, I found I couldn't turn on my Canon Pixma iP4000 printer. I checked the power cord, and...

The print head is what is holding your ink cartidges and can be removed. Do as it says and remove it and then reinstall it. If that fails to work, you can try going somewhere like Staples to pick up a new print head, if they have any in stock.
Thats a really decent printer by the way; a great deal when they came out and a solid performer.
Good luck!

When printing pictures, there are faint white vertical lines on

Cleaning usually doesn't help that printhead much. A new one QY6-0049-000 is around $40.00. You remove by lifting the gray handle on the left after removing all the inks.

I think there is ink contamination on the bottom of the print head. Remove all cartridges and then remove the print head. Wash the bottom of the printhead with hot water. After that dry with a cloth. Make sure its fully dry. (Toiletpaper does a good job of drying the printhead). Make sure no ink is leaking out of the cartridges. Replace everything and then run a deep cleaning test.

Good Luck
Hope this helps
