Your volume may be turned down on your cable box or satelite box. if this is so, a dvd should be loud, but cable/sat quite.

go into your settings, then find the audio settings
find the audio output setting, and put it to "fixed" instead of variable

or push "cable" and then try to turn up the volume on your cable remote. .
it may be "fixed" to tv.
this is usually the cause..
it could be your tvs audio amp or processing, but not as likely (main board bad)

let me know if you need further assistance.

Have to turn the tv up to 100 to hear but it works fine when playing a dvd

When your watching tv you must be using a cable box or a pvr that has it's own volume control. Make sure it's volume is at it's max and then use only the volume of the tv.

There is a "hissing" sound on low volume. Whazzup?

Do you have a cable box connected to it? I'm sure you do .. You might have the TV or the cable box at max volume ..

If you are using the TV as the main volume control try to lower the volume from the cable box, maybe to mid volume.

If you are using the Cable box as the main volume try doing the opposite from the above..

Hope this helps.

I have a Vizio 42' and a cable box and there's a constant humming

I think I had the same problem. This is how I fixed it.

I have my vizio 42 hooked up to a Harmon Kardon surround sound, and the digital cable box. Essentially, I can adjust the volume 3 ways - through the tv, cable box or av receiver. The humming sound happens when you have the volume maxed out on the av receiver and not the cable box.

For example, the sound level on my Harmon Kardon goes from -10 (lowest) to 10 (loudest), with 0 being the middle ground. The buzzing was happening when the Harmon Kardon was set to 10, and I was using the cable box volume to adjust the sound. To fix it, I turned down the volume on my receiver to 0, which may be about 50% max volume of the receiver. Then, I switched devices and used the volume on my cable box. This got rid of the static I was getting. Hope that helps.

Vizio Volume Control

I am sure you did this but recheck your audio menu on all your inputs. I have found that cables can go bad so make sure they are in good shape. Are you haveing the problems with all your inputs dvd, cable (direct cable or a cable box) whatever? It is hard to affect the audio by just moving the set. I am hoping that you changed something or the cables went bad that would be the easy solution.

Good Luck!

I've seen the same problem, went thought a couple of cable boxes. Turned out to be an AC line problem. Try plugging the TV into a different out, maybe in another part of the house.

Vizio speakers make a buzzing noise

It's not the speakers. I usually hear of this problem when hooked up to an HD cable box. You can adjust the volume on the cable box and also on the TV. I'll bet you don't have this problem when watching a DVD.

If the problem is what I think it is, your HD Cable box is set at a really low volume while your TV is set to a rather high volume. Try setting the TV volume to around one-third, then set the volume on the cable box until it's as loud as you'd ever want to hear it. With the TV at such a high volume, you're actually amplifying any stray electronic signals that the wires might be picking up, and the above solution will fix that.

Good Luck.
