Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

On my GE Model GTS22IB the only things working are the lights. I gained access to the thermostat behind the controls but can't jump the wires because it's got a plug-in to a circuit board. Any way to check this without a volt meter? Or with one if I can borrow it?

How do I change the fuse?

On most GE/Hotpoint models, the control panel assembly will either tip down, or pivot sideways for access to the components behind it. Screws holding the top air deflector might have to be removed in order to gain access to the control panel mounting screws. I recently junked-out a similar model. The main fuse was near where the power cord enters the cabinet on top. Avoid contact with any of the high voltage components.

You need to replace the main control board on the back of the unit. Here is the part to order.
Roll unit away from the wall, unplug it, then on the lower freezer side of the rear you will see the access door for the board. Remove the screw and cover to gain access to the board.

Microwave will run, but will not heat anything up.

maybe the magnetron on unit... there is a thermostat on the magnetron or right below it that will go will have to gain access to it behind the control panel... unplug unit and remove 2 wires that are attached to it .check to see if it has contuinity if it does then it is good.. the magnetron is a square device that actually heats the food in microwave while operating.the cost of the magnetron is sometimes expensive and the cost of repairs is almost worth replacing the microwave unless you have the mechanical knowledge to replace.... go to then hit the parts direct link on the top of the page.. you will have to enter the complete model number and then click on the parts diagram box find the part you need and price and availability... good luck to you...

Kenmore model 596.71103101 stopped working. No sounds at all, no cooling. Un plugged for awhile, plugged in, still nothing, cranked freezer control to Max, started working

Sounds like a defective cold control thermostat. Remove the wires from the thermostat and jump them together. If it runs continuosly for 45 minutes, replace the thermostat.

I have a GE gas stove (model # JGBP29MEM1BS)and the ignition switch (thing that creates a spark to light the gas) is going off when the knobs are turned all the way off. Is there a switch that controls the...

There are 4 switches. One behind each knob. You will have to remove the panel to access the switches to find which one is stuck. Once you open the panel, remove one wire at a time until the clicking stops. That will be the bad switch. It must be replaced.

Ice forming on rear of freezer wall

The best way to determine what has caused a non defrosting GE electronic control model is to first access the control board. Jump terminals line power to defrost, (J4 and J9). An amp probe should be placed on this jumper wire to determine current draw of the defrost circuit. A three amp draw is what is normal for this circuit. This will eliminate checking behind the evaporator cover to determine a defective heater or over temp device (defrost terminator). Note: This test is only to check the defrost circuit. It does not initiate a defrost cycle. If the unit is in any other cycle than defrost, that cycle will continue to operate as well.

Ac air not blowing

On this vehicle there is a blower motor control module located on the right side of the vehicle inside the engine compartment behind a relay cover. You have to remove the cover and unbolt the retainers holding the relay box to gain access to the module which in mounted into the evaporator duct just behind the duct. If you jump a wire from the red to the puple wire (with key in the on position) the blower should come on. The red wire is in the two wire connector and the purple wire is in the 4 wire connector. if the motor comes on check to see if you have 6 volts on the gray wire with a black tracer located in the 4 wire connector. If you do the blower motor control module has failed. This is a rather common failure on this model.
