Question about Samsung 206BW Monitor

Problems with digital cable

My new Samsung 206BW monitor doesn't seem to recognise the signal when I use the digital cable supplied with it (says check signal) and yet the analog is just fine. Am using Nvidia 8800 GTX card and the drivers are all up to date. Any idea what's wrong (aside from maybe a faulty cable)?

Thanks

Check the source on the monitor, there's a button for it on the front.

Look for bad caps first.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Something is wrong inside the monitor. I would call samsung support and get an answer from them. You could probably trade your monitor in aswell if its still under warranty.

Had exactly the same problem. Replacing two capacitors solved it!

Following advice from here and other places, today I replaced two capacitors that seemed to have burst at the top, and the problem disappeared completely!

It's the two 1000uF/25V capacitors (C261 & C263) on the power supply board (the large ones in the front - note their bloated tops).

People complained that the capacitors Samsung used were cheap ones that won't last, and indeed they cracked, just over 3 years after I bought that otherwise good monitor (3 years also being the warranty period - strange, no?...).

So for about $2 you can save yourself a lot of pain.

If you have soldering iron and can place an order at DigiKey.com (and are willing to get your hands down on this), this is a rather easy fix with some direction. You basically will be replacing some failing capacitors inside the unit.

I had a similar problem with the same model; the cable connection into my computer was not good. Try fiddling or replacing the cable.
