Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

I recently installed my Brother 3040cn on a new computer (actually have tried 3) and it is not being acknowledged. The software is installed and updated but does not show it as being connected. Same thing on 3 different computers.

Hello,

which of the printer cable connection did you use to connect to the computer(s)?

The problem should be either from the printer cable or the printer channel. There are two channels by which you can connect your printer to your computer, 1.) printer cord, 2.) Usb cord.

To solve this problem, change your printer connection. By this I mean if you are using the USB of your printer, change to the other printer connection using printer cord, or if you are using the printer cord, change to usb. If you don't know what a printer cord looks like, visit the below link:

http://media.photobucket.com/image/printer%20cords/wealthgainer/Sourcing/PrinterCable5M.jpg

Also, you can try to change your printer cord as that might be the cause of the problem.

If the above does not solve the problem, then it means the printer is faulty, and needs to be repaired.

Take care.

    Hi,
Thanks for the amswer. However this printer only has the USB connection~I have tried 3 different USA+B canles and same thing with all. COuld the printer be bad? It powers up and will print the practice sheets and will print out the printer info~just acts like there is no connection between it and the computer./

    Thanks,
    Vic

    Hello,

the fault should be from the printer. The whole printer is not faulty, but its just the usb aspect/area of the printer that is faulty. This part is replaceable, and this should solve the problem.

You can as well try the printer with another computer, to be more sure the fault is from the printer.

Also, you can uninstall and reinstall the printer software and try again. Uninstall the printer software, restart your computer, reinstall your printer software and try again.

If all the above does not solve the problem, at this stage, I will advice that you take the printer to a repairman to help you check the usb area of the printer.

    Good luck.

mmmmm...your solution seems logical which probably means it not going to be that easy...ha ha

I have tried the printer on 3 different computers all using different windows and I get the same problem.

Is there a way to test the usb port? I have to have this printer no later than tomorrow afternoon..or I will have to go buy a new one (not that I really have the money~but it is needed). I would like to try and find something out now. Brother does not offer support over the weekend! Ugh!!!! I will not buy another Brother!!!

    Thanks

    Vic

    Hello,

I don't think there is a way you can test the usb port. I would also suggest you give repairing a trial. You can give the printer to a local repairer within your vicinity, so that the usb will be diagnosed in other to ascertain the problem and a solution can be proffered.

But if at the end of the day, you end up getting another printer, I would recommend any HP all-in-one printer, because its easy to use and easy to repair. You can repair HP printers yourself if its faulty by going to hp site, enter your product name and you will be directed on how to fix the printer, in case it develops any fault.

I wish you the best of luck.

Hmmm click start right click computer .. Click hardware then device manager.. Or just device manager .. Right click and click scan for hardware changes.. Also make sure the usb cable is connected in the correct port of the printer.. The 3 in 1 brothers u need to lift the scanner up to get to the usb port..

I do not see where it tells me to scan for hardware changes..sorry...this is on the Vista and this is only my second day on it. I also tried it on windows 7 and XP and have the same problem. I do not have the XP in front of me my Dad took it back home. I do have the other 2 here though.

How do you know which is the correct port? I never paid attention in the past and never had problems. I had this printer connected and working on my old desktop last week .
    Thanks

I just moved apartments, reset up my printer/computer, now computer is not acknowledging the printer. When I try to print it will say "connecting, 78% completed) and then nothing actually comes out.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR PRINTER SET ON DEFAULT AND THAT IT IS INSTALLED PROPERLY! OR YOU CAN ALSO TRY...UNHOOKING YOUR PRINTER, SHUT DOWN YOUR COMPUTER AND HOOK YOUR PRINTER BACK UP BEFORE RESTARTING TO LET YOUR COMPUTER INSTALL YOUR PRINTER.

IF YOUR COMPUTER DOESN'T RECOGINIZE NEW HARDWARE, SUCH AS YOUR PRINTER, THAN IT IS NOT SET AS YOUR DEFAULT PRINTER!

YOUR SOFTWARE MAY NEED TO BE CORRECTLY INSTALLED, MAKE SURE YOUR PRINTER IS NOT HOOKED UP WHEN INSTALLING SOFTWARE.

SOFTWARE HAS BE INSTALLED FIRST, AND RECOGNIZED...THEN RESTART COMPUTER WITH PRINTER (HARDWARE) HOOKED UP!
