Hi
Depends on what you paid for it. The error is an indication that either the laser head is misaligned or defective or the motor or associated head/motor electronics is defective.

While watching a DVD my Sony DVP-NS30P failed completely, presumably the power supply. Is this common and is it relativly straight forward to fix? Thanks Neil

Yes! the power supply is the issue, I have found the main filter capacitor in some units opens stopping the power flow, if that is the case the repair is simple to correct.

I have same problem. Am unable to connect my Sony DCR-HC28 to my computer. I have tried different cords to different computer, but get the same error that the device cannot be read

Try to connect to dvd RECORDER and make dvd, then finalize it. It works perfectly and there is no need for software. Then you can play it even on the computer or any dvd player. Good luck

Unlock sony DVP-FX720

The problem may be you are trying to play DVDs from a specific region (Europe) and the player is set for another region. Region code errors will show up as "no Play" or 'region" Check the manual to see how to set the player to Region 0. A region machine will play any DVD. Sometimes the setting is on the menu - usually in the set-up screen under "region." I have re-set all my Phillips players to become Region Free through the menu.

Playing recorded DVD's on my current DVD player

alot depends on type of disc and certain players- if -r disc make sure it was finalized-if you try a -rw it may work unfinalized right out of cam-there is always the posibility your dvd player may never play them-belive me it is a ton of trial and error-i have 5 players in house and when i burn video it doesn't always work in all of them!

Picture in Black & White

if you are using composite cables (yellow, red & white), make sure your yellow (video cable) is into the yellow output. if you plugged the wire into the green on the back of the dvd it will give you a black & white picute. But if it is in the yellow then you most likely have a problem with the dvd player that will need to be taken to a service center.
