How to thread the singer 20u33? The tension assembly is new, don't know where the wire is sposed to be...

When you thread the top thread, the thread will drop down on the right side of the tension mechanism and go around the bottom (clockwise) and up the left side. Grab the thread somewhere above the tension mechanism with your right hand and then pull the toward the right (as though you are going to close the circle around the tension disk. The thread should pull on the metal wire (spring) and your thread should pop into the correct position of the tension disk. When you release the thread, the wire spring should pop back to the left. Then you will continue threading through the remaining thread guides and the take-up lever.

I am not sure about this particular machine but in most machines there will be a nob on the front loose low numbers like 0 1 -2 work well on number 3. If the nob is not on the front check and see if it is on the side.

I need an owner's manual

Singer owns the White line. The manual for the 1934D Superlock is available in two pdfs: http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/982_sl-1934d,2000-a-x.pdf and http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/983_sl-1934d,2000-b-x.pdf .

The section on the thread tension starts on page 38 of the first manual.

I hope this helps. If you need additional assistance, please indicate which threads (upper, lower) that are not correctly tensioned.

Cindy Wells
(this is a multi-language manual. Page 38 has the tension information in English. Please note I needed to use the rotate feature in Adobe Reader to make it easier to follow.)

I can't seem to ever get the tension right on my "singer simple". no matter what i do, the stiching is a problem. this is my second machine with the same problem, is this a mfr defect or...

Probably operator error. Make sure the machine is threaded right, make sure the bobbin is threaded properly, change the needle.... even though you think the needle is sharp. Make sure you are using the right thread. If you have bargain thread, throw it out. Use Coats & Clark, which is still reasonably priced. My friend has a lower end Singer that was acting up ... loose threads on the bottom of the fabric, which means upper tension .... we did the simple thing of changing the thread. It worked, and the machine is sewing beautifully.
