You will have to install the audio drivers, these drivers are the software’s or the utilities which actually make the hardware’s work properly the same goes for the sound in the computer,
I think to remove the viruses in your computer they simply formatted the drive and when you do that you have to install all the drivers to make your system run properly.
To check which all drivers are not installed you will have to check the device manager {click on start – click on run – under run type devmgmt.msc} you will get the device manager if there is a yellow mark anywhere it means that the driver is not installed and you will have to install that driver.
To install the driver go to the manufacturers website then go to drivers and downloads select your product and operating system and download the driver.

Well we have eliminated the laptop as a problem,.. that is very good. As far as what the problem with your BA unit is,.. we only know that it does not function with an external device (laptop and mp3 player). you already mentioned that a sound test from the unit plays through all the speakers,. right? With that lets start with the most basic item that will cause this problem,.. the cable that comes from the BA unit and plugs into the laptop or mp3 player. Is the cable plugged into the right place on the BA unit? Does the cable disconnect from the the BA unit? if so, do both ends of the cable look the same or is there 2 ends (maybe red and white) that plug into the BA unit? Please let me know when you can and we can continue troubleshooting this.

Try plugging in earphones to see if the problem is the speakers or the output from your computer. Also, your computer output may be low power output for powered speakers and your speakers are not compatable. You may also be plugged in to the wrong output on your computer.

Trouble with rear speakers

This may be a software issue. If you only had two speakers before, the software will not use the rear speakers.
Go to Control Panel. Click on "Sound and Audio Devices". Under the Volume Tab, at the bottom, you will see a picture roughly representing the type of speakers.
Click on the Advanced button.
Click on the arrow in the pick box, and choose Surround Speakrs or the 5.1 Speakers.
Click Okay. Try the speakers again.

I lost my adaptor for Boston BA 265 Speaker, 12 V in but What amp

Do not worry about the milliamp.
As long as you use an adapter thats the correct voltage (you stated 12 volts), the end connector fits into the speakers and the polarity is the same, then you wont have any trouble.

No expert solution here - just a suggestion. Did you check the 9-amp fuse below the "Out to PC" connection on the subwoofer?
