Yes take the top cover off and give all the heads etc a spray with Servisol Video 40. That might make a differance. Allow to dry before trying a tape! If the house has a smoker you might need to do a lot of work!

Philips manuals

Most VCR's have manual tracking. Generally it will use a set of keys on the remote used by another function. Often the channel up down keys! This will also apply to the controls on the video itself.

Bad tracking is also caused by dirt one the heads or tape path. So clean the machine first before adjusting the tracking.

How do you resolve the tracking?

Some machines are automatic, some have a knob to adjust, some are driven by the remote. If the 'tracking adjustment' system does not work, then the video heads are dirty and need to be cleaned. The use of 'head cleaner' tapes is NOT recommended as these can do permanent damage.

Belt tracking

I don't know your model of vacuum but there is no way to adjust the tracking on most models. If the belt is not staying on properly it usually indicates a problem somewhere. Start with a new belt, make there the brush roll spins freely. Install the new belt with the brush roll and spin slowly by hand. If it is not tracking properly you will need to watch the moving parts to try to determine what could be causing your problem

How do i adjust tracking. tapes roll. used a cleaning tape, didn't help. there is no switch for manual tracking.

Cleaning tapes are not as good as going in with a can of Servisol Video 40 and some cotton buds. Take the top cover off and give it a really good clean with them. Clean everywhere the tape touches. Make certain you allow to dry before trying again. If that doesn't work you could have a faulty head.
PS it will take longer to clean if it is housed in a room where people smoke!

Windows defective

The window track is out of adjustment and the track lining is probably warn. You need to remove the door panel to gain access to the window track. Once in the door you will see the tracks and the adjusting nuts. Loosen the nuts and snug up the track, not too tight and not bent.Try the window a few times before reassembly. Great truck I hope he enjoys it, good luck.

Picture bounces up and down

All new VCR's are auto tracking however, you should be able to manually track it using your remote, or there are a few reasons that the auto track can fail, the tape may have worn or ragged edges which means that the control head cannot get a clean reading, the control head may itself need cleaning or the tape path requires adjustments, adjusting the guides really needs to be done by a technician as a reference tape is used, or that the heads are low and a good video signal cannot be obtained to gain a reference point....Phil

"How do I adjust tracking pressure and anti skate?
If you are lucky enough to have these two adjustments here's how: Move tracking force counter weight till needle suspends/hovers above record. then rotate numbers to zero. (this is zero grams pressure on record) then rotate weight AND numbers to recommended tracking pressure for your needle usually 1.5 to 3 grams is average. Then rotate anti skate to be equal. That should get you there. If you still have adjustment related distortion then it may be time for a new needle.
NOTE: Anti skate is adjusting side to side pressure WITHIN GROOVE of record. Tracking pressure is how hard the needle is pushing down inside the groove." from

lots of crackles are caused by crummy records and needles. to some small degree are unavoidable no matter what, but above all the records must be clean.

someday the manual may show up for free here

Tracking

Hi,

3 possible reasons:
1. Your video head needs cleaning;
2. The pinch roller is no longer making full contact with the entire tape width; or
3. Your capstan motor is running out of standard speed.

Corrective procedures would call for:
A. Clean the video head with a tape head cleaner;
B. Clean, re-align or replace the pinch roller; or
C. Re-calibrate the capstan speed. In some models, there are 2 adjusting trimpots for SP, LP and SLP speeds. This procedure would call for a special tachometer and/or an alignment tape. In the absence, you perhaps can try winging it (adjust till you are satisfied and no picture roll). To determine which are the trimpots, you need a service manual or at least a schematic/parts placement diagram. Further you need to be familiar with electronic components and circuitry as well as use of a DVM. of course this would involve running/diagnosing/adjusting with the case/cover open and the unit plug in to the mains and running. This would also call for extreme care working with live units.

Should you not be comfortable doing a DIY, perhaps your best option would be to seek the services of a qualified VCR technician.

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
