my dryer is tgds740 pq1 this was the closest model # after taking off the back I can see the gas kick on and stays on for several min. long enough to get pretty hot...but then it shuts down. I checked the few sensors in the back and wiped them off...I am not sure is there a thermal coupler like in a hot water heater? I haven't turned over the dryer yet! thought I would get some input. any suggestions? thanks roxanne

YOU HAVE A SOLENOID (COIL) ON THE VALVE THAT IS HEATING UP AND BREAKING CONTACT INTERNALLY. WHEN YOU BUY THE COILS, THEY COME AS A SET SO YOU WILL REPLACE BOTH OF THEM.

How do I run a diagnostic? The dryer just quit heating. Everything else is working fine. How do I trouble shoot to see which part needs replaced?

If there is no heat, you can conclude the heating element has failed or a controller has failed but your description does not identify the dryer brand and indicate whether it is electric or gas.

Dryer stops tumbling, but heating element stays on

Usually when an electric dryer overheats it's because of a defective cycling thermostat or a clogged vent system. Clean any lint from the internal and external ductwork, and/or replace the cycling thermostat

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Dryer will not run or heat

Could be the thermostat or element....Element should read around 32 ohms on multimeter..stat closed circuit.....Try to look for any overheat cut off at the back anywhere...

Gas dryer won't heat with cover off

The 2 coils on the gas valve , need to be replaced . After the dryer runs for a short time , the coils get warm from the electricity going thru them . The weaker valve , shorts internally , not letting the gas go thru . After the dryer cools down , and the coils cool down , then the short will close ( giving continuity ) , until they warm up again . If you had given the model number , I would have given you the part number .
