If you have no meter, I would pull the back freezer panel and look at the defrost thermostat clipped to the top of the evaporator. If the top of it looks bulged, replace it. If it looks ok, replace it and the adaptive defrost board behind the control panel.

Here is the official repair manual if you need to get it: SSPartDetail.aspx?PartID=824601

Here can find PARTS for this model.

Hope helps.

How can I test if the one that I have is not working?

I checked the heating element and it has 22.6 ohm across contacts. Is that acceptible?

The problem is that it will not defrost.

Re:I checked the heating element and it has 22.6 ohm across contacts. Is that acceptible?

That means that the element is fine.

Re:The problem is that it will not defrost.

Problem is usually the defrost thermostat. Read Ohms, it must have low impedance at room, or it is faulty. See general troubleshooting here:Kenmore side by side is not cooling.

Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

Freezer doesn't work , fridge does. Side by side model#mzd2667he

Hi,
Well if the fridge is cooling fine and freezer is not working, you have one of the following faults:-
1.defrost thermostat.
2.defrost timer.
3.defrost heater.
Please check these to resolve the issue.
Thanks!

Side-by-side Maytag lost it's cool

Is there frost on the back wall of the freezer about 1 foot from the bottom ? If so , then a defrost problem . Either a bad adaptive timer (electronic board in control section ) , a bad bimetal (locatod on top of the freezer coils. A small cylinder with 2 wires on it ) or a bad defrost heater . Usually , the adaptive timer is the problem .

Door frame is always hot on freexer side

Is it hot all the way around, or just on the face of the divider between the freezer and fridge? If it's just the divider, then it's probably not a defrost problem. When that divider gets hot, it usually means there is inadequate air flow over the condenser coils outside the unit.

When the compressor is running, check for air blowing under the unit. If no air is moving, then you probably have a failed condenser fan. If the fan is running, then use your vacuum cleaner to clean the coils, and make sure there is space behind the fridge for air to flow.

Maytag refrigerator side-by-side model MSD2756GE freezer is working fine, but refrigerator is not cooling. can not hear a fan blowing from freezer to refrigeration side.

remove the baskets and shelves in the freezer and remove the rear panels after shutting the fridge down. If you see heavy frost on the coils then the defrost model needs replaced. If not, check the that the fans runs, and then that the thermostat works and then that the damper that allows the air to the fridge compartment is opening correctly.
