Kenmore refrigerator that keep tripping the breaker

I have a Kenmore refrigerator that I keep as a second fridge out in the garage. It worked great then I unplugged it and didn't use it for a year. Now I want to start using it and it will run and start to cool and a few hours later I will check it and it has tripped the breaker I have tried other outlets and get the same results. The outlet is the same one it was plugged into originally

SOURCE: Frigidaire side-by-side refrigerator keeps tripping GFI outlet.

We had same problem with different fridge. Is the fridge cooling things? When ours did that we needed to replace the relay overload start capacitor it's called a three in one. It acts like a giant battery to give your compressor a n extra boost to get started runs about 25 bucks relatively easy fix only has three wires to connect

SOURCE: Everytime I plug in the power cord, it trips the breaker.

Refrigerators are not designed to run on a GFCI. Try a heavy duty extension cord to the fridge from a outlet that is not GFCI protected. If it still trips you probably have a short circuit in the compressor.

SOURCE: GFI outlet is tripping because of refrigerator in the garage.

Hi: Yes, replace the GFI outlet. A refrigerator should not be plugged into one for what you are experiencing and food loss. This was an easy answer for me, but unfortunately not for you The owners manual covers this, but us men don't read them (Well I had to as I worked with them for 30 years). Good luck, Jeff

SOURCE: Fridge keeps tripping the circuit breaker

Unless there is a dedicated circuit of 20 amps to the refrigerator this will continue to happen When your refrigerator goes into defrost and other things like lights fans air conditioners are on the same circuit it will have no choice to not trip the breaker. Try this turn the breaker off and how may thing in your house stop working? You need a 20 AMP circuit or this will possibly damage the compressor or weaken the breaker because it has tripped so many time. Thanks, Please rate my solution, I have done this work for 30 years. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Check the parts list at the link below to see if a circuit breaker is present in your fridge, it could have tripped if incoming line problems were unstable:

Breaker trips when Kenmore refridgerator is plugged in

That is Not a good thing.

I will assume the breaker trips when the motor on the fridge kicks in.

How old are the breakers and how old is the fridge? If either is approaching 20 years, I would call an electrician for the breakers and/or go to the wholesale fridge warehouse for a new fridge..

Old fridges need to be replaced, old breakers - even more so.

There is one device that might buy you some time --- a voltage regulator. But don't hold your breath. Rather, read this paper:

http://www.esat.kuleuven.be/electa/publications/fulltexts/pub_1147.pdf

Ultimately you lef t of many details -- like did you just move your old fridge into a new place? Or did the fridge work great for x amount of years and then this started happening? Lots of stuff to know here.

As an example: One time a mouse chewed my wires just enough to cause trouble, but not enough to clue my meter - the meter said the voltage was OK. It can get complicated.

NTL, I doubt you went very long without a fridge.

the thermostat isn't cycling because it's to cold in the garrage, the machine isn't calling for cold air because the garrage is so cold so the fridge isn't gonna run until the temperature starts to get warm and then the fridge will start again to keep it cold.put some heat in the garrage and it will run fine

I cleaned my Kenmore 59658692890 and moved it to the garage. When I plug the fridge in the GFI trips. Any suggestions?

Refrigerators has starting amps that do not done well with GFI circuits.
GFI is designed to trip with a power surge.
Refrigerators have power surges.
Find a non-GFI circuit to plug into.

GARAGE FRIDGE STILL TRIPPING THE GFCI ....WHY?

If your frig is plugged directly into a GFCI, you need to remove the GFCI and replace it with a standard plug. No one should have a GFCi behind a refrigerator.
