I've sent back 2 phones with this exact problem. Came on here and found the solution on the blog from another camera. It works! Here it is:
Figured it out....the zoom lense, while in the open position, was a little out of line, thus preventing the camera from retracting it. After gently re-aligning the lense, it retracted properly and the camera resumed normal functioning.
So basically, wiggle the lens every so slightly then try the power button again. Hope it works for you!

OK, the lens assembly has failed causing a shutdown error. So, technically, the camera is trash because it would WAY more expensive to fix that one than to just buy a new one. NOW, read carefully. When you power on the camera, watch when the lens tries to come out. You'll notice that the shutter on the lens opens first then it pokes out a bit then goes back in and shuts down. If you time it right, you can slip your fingernail under where the shutter is and "assist" the lens out more. dont pull too hard because you'll rip the fron of the lens assembly off. but once it is able to go past this point, 9 times out of 10, it fixes the problem entirely and the camera works just fine after that.

CAnnon Powershot A630 LCD screen will not light up when trying to take a pic. I can, however view old pics that I've already taken.

First press the DISP or DISPLAY button to see if that corrects the problem. If not, a stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).
To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

My samsung BL103 camera takes good pics inside but ot outside. how do i fix

First make sure that you are in "Automatic" mode, and not in one of the camera's othe manual modes which may keep the shutter open for an extended period. But if you are indeed in auto mode, and it's still doing this, a stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. By the way, my wife happens to own a SD1000. Great little camera, but it's prone to stuck shutter every once and a while. Easily fixed each time though by simply opening the battery door while on, and gently flicking the lens barrel a few times. Again, see the link.
