Difficult to say but try going into the printing preferences (button at the top of the print box when you hit 'print' in Word or wherever you're printing from) and then asking your printer to print in black only (sometimes called 'greyscale'). If this red light means it won't do ANYTHING it's probably gone into a state of 'shock' at running out of colour and it needs a power reset to recover - pull the power lead for a few seconds then see what it does after it's reset. Finally it may simply want all it's cartridges full just to talk to the pc - some printers do and it's not at all annoying - oh no

How do I get the printer to print when it only has the blk ink cartridge that is new and the color ink is running out. It prints everything red. What do I do?

Get new color cart. Most inkjet printers will not print anything if one of the carts is empty.

As for printing everything red, that is a different issue. Your printer setup screen in the computer may have a "black only" setting.

Why is it printing only from both ink cartridges

Without knowing the printer's make or model, I'll take a quick guess. Most color printers will actually use a little color ink even when printing black-only. The color is used to keep the nozzles clear. You will not be able to print when either of the carts goes empty.

HP LaserJet 2600N All colors are empty, but Black is brand new. It still says Replace Supplies and the light keeps flashing. Oh, and it won't print anything. So even if I want just B&W, do...

None of the cartridges can be empty if you want to print.
Even if you only want to print black, just black you need to
replace the other three cartridges.
Yes color laser printing is expensive.

My HP F380 all in one does not print at all even tho I just installed another (3rd) new black printer cartridge. Color cartridge is empty.

Stupid printers refuses B/W print jobs when color cartridge is empty. Sorry, the answer is: install full color catridge.

I have HP Deskjet D2466 Printer and when i want to print with color cartridge, the black color would be printed as blue color... My black cartridge was exhausted so i only can printed with color...

when the color cartridge has to make black, it uses all three colors. printing blue indicates that the color cart. is getting low on red and yellow. get a new black cart. and a new color, 'cause it' s coming due.

Let me know

Orange light flashing next to down arrow and printer won't print. just says that color not installed. i have changed print settings to black only and installed a new black cartridge

It will not print without a color cartridge installed, even if you only want black. It will need a color cart. as well, and it can't be empty. All of the printer companies are doing this now. Wish I had better news...

My ink light is blinking not stop

if you have ink blinking change ur cartrigars, as black is needed to be filled not necssary for color.
and in my case my black was empty and my color was damaged. so i had to replace both of them.

Even with out the Black cartridge installed the X1240 should use the color cart to make a "composite" black. I would suggest calling Technical support to troubleshoot that issue ad get you to test the cart itself

Print only in black

You have two choices to do that:

1. If you want to print in color sometimes in future again, do this:
Buy some glycerin alc. (drugstore) and some destilled water.
Mix 2 ml glycerin alc (or glycerol) with 8ml of destilled water and refill the ORIGINAL C/Y/M carts with the mix. (Drill a 2mm hole onto the top into the brandname).
The mixture prevents the color side of the ph from drying out.

2. If you dont want to print in color anymore:
stick some black adhesive tape around the "nose" of each cart.
The nose is the small window which hides a small black flag that signals the printer that the cart is in position and that there is enough ink within.

Never print in color

yes there is:

what you need to keep the printhead alive and to print only b/w is
some destill water, some glycerin alc. (drugstore) and some printhead cleaning solution and ORIGINAL -empty!- brother c/y/m carts:

Drill a 2mm hole into the brand name on top of the carts (e. g. <<O>> of brother).

Mix 7ml destill water with 3ml glycerin alc. and 1ml of print head cleaning solution (shake well before filling into a syringe and then to the open cart).

Do print in Greyscale mode (see printer settings) and with normal paper only, because otherwise the printing will be bad!

Machine will print b/w only and you can be sure that the ph will keep alive!
