My microwave Model JVM1190BY with WB6X63 rubber belt is sqeaking

My microwave WB6X63 rubber belt began sqeaking. I found bottom edge of the belt was riding against the bottom edge of the motor pulley. I replaced it and now the new belt turns down flat against the bottom edge of the motor pulley. What is causing this? Is this normal If not what the fix? The Model Number is JVM1190BY 001, Serial Number is: RS 952637S This Model does not have a turn table. It has a paddle like fan in the top turned by a motor with a rubber belt.

SOURCE: Microwave Turn Table

This could be a failing turntable motor, but more likely your turntable support has gotten bent. That's an easier and cheaper problem to solve. Excessive heat can sometimes make the legs of the support bend so that the center is raised up far enough that it won't always make good contact with the motor. You can test this by running the microwave empty for a few seconds. It may hesitate to turn or stutter. Next try it with a bowl with several cups of water in it. The extra weight may push it down so it makes good contact and runs without a hitch. The way I fix these is to use a stove burner or a torch to heat up the legs and bend them up a bit. Then I quickly set up or clamp the support so it's held in the proper position for a few minutes until it cools. One way to hold the heated support in position is to place an object under the end of each leg and put something slightly heavy on top of it in the middle. SOURCE: G.E. Profile Microwave Model JVM2070SH01 turn table does not turn.

The turntable system consists of the motor, the coupler, the turntable support with rollers, and the tray.

You can see and hear a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.

If yours is not set to be off via the control panel, and it won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.

To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

SOURCE: My microwave does not heat anything. The touchpad, exahustfan, light works. The motor turns on and turn-table works for the number of mins specified but does not warm up the stuff. Please help!

Sounds like the magnetron has failed. This is the component that produces the microwaves that heats the food.

The cost of the magnetron is about 95% of the cost of a microwave oven. Most people don't, for this reason, replace the magnetron, they replace the whole oven which is probably what you will end up doing.

There is a possibility that the circuit that provides power to the magnetron is faulty and you need to take it apart, find the proper electrical leads and test them with a volt meter. To do this you have to remove it from its mounting and take it apart. It is a fairly lengthy process however.

Loose bottom hinge - slide the microwave to the edge of the counter, and look at the bottom hinge - you may have to remove something to see clearly. Its likely you are missing a screw or the screws have worked themselves loose.

Remove the bottom cover to the oven and check to see if a rubber belt exists, if so it may have stretched and may be slipping. Replace the belt if one exists.

G E microwave model # JVM1190BY has reading sensor error or error 3 or at times just starts up when we are not even using. tried shutting circut breaker....whats going on

Hello

"ERR 3" means that the magnetron units have failed in the microwave. Food will not cook or heat up when the microwave is in use.

This code is different than "ERR 1" or "ERR 2" because with those the microwave is still operational. "ERR 3" means a complete failure.

The magnetron is the main source of power and heating in a microwave. Magnets work inside a magnetron tube to create the heat and voltage needed to cook items.

Bring the microwave back to the retailer or a repair shop for service. You may also consider purchasing a whole new microwave if the prices are cheap enough.

My gold star microwave worked lastnight. Went to

The outside bottom of your microwave usually has a belt hidden underneath a small cover directly under the turntable. This belt sometimes falls off or breaks, and sometimes the motor that turns the belt fails. Most time the motor can be found if you remove the main top cover of the microwave, about 10 screws.
Parts can be easily found at your local appliance parts store.

Best of luck.

Bulb blown. How do I change it?

Hello there :
first you will need to remove all of the screws off the back edges and the sides next turn over the microwave over and there will be 6 or 8 screws that are on the bottom edges remove them now turn over the microwave and using a flat tip screwdriver look at the seam and you can use the screwdriver to get the cover to start moving towards the back andd then once it is loose it will lift off
Now you will see the bulb towards the fromnt of the microwave simply replace the bulb and test it the microwave if it works reassemble the microwave and you are done ok ?
I hope this is very helpful for you
Best regards Michael

Here is a link to PartSelect.com, I have used them for my microwave repairs in the past and they usually ship the items fast.

I have put in your Model number, but the closest that I could find was JVM1190BY003. You can look at the picture and determine if the parts look the same and the picture will show you that you will have to take the entire door apart, (You may already know that).

Acceptable distance from cook top surface to microwave?

Sorry but your subject line got cut off. I'll assume you're talking about the distance from the cooktop to the top of the microwave (bottom of the cabinet to which it's mounted).

Here's how the installation instructions spec it:
  • "Make sure the bottom edge of the cabinet that will be above the microwave oven is at least 66" from the floor and 30" from the cooking surface."
So it's measured from the cooktop to the top of the microwave, not the bottom edge.

And I always recommend that you use the vent fan whenever you're cooking on the stove top to keep heat, steam, and grease out of the controls and door panels.

You can also download your owner's manual form the link I posted above.

Above range microwave

According to the installation instructions for this model, the distance from the cooktop surface to the bottom edge of the cabinet (and thus the top of the microwave) must be 30" or more.

Owner's manuals and installation instructions can be downloaded here: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/
