Re: 1999 zenith 52 inch rear projection screen t.v.
IS the screen white retrace lines ? Have you looked into the CRT lenses while they are on with a signal applied through the input to see if an image is displayed in the lens lens of the crt? Let me know what the answer is to these two questions and we will go to the next level.

I had this same problem. The Zenith rep told me to unplug the TV, hold the power button down for 30 seconds, plug it back in and then turn it on. It worked and I haven't had a problem with it since. I hope this helps. Good Luck!
We had the same problem and cost 374 dollars and the remote control thing in the TV was replaced in our 52 inch projection tv (about 6 years old). Now it does not turn on with the cable remote. 2 months later now the tv (on its own starts to flip channels and the volumes goes up and down even when the all the remotes do not have batteries in them.
It could be as simple as dust contamination in the LE or lcd chip. You need a clean room to work on this area of the unit and NOTHING you can do there would make that possible, short of spending a few thousand to build one. Before we added a clean room enviroment we simply pulled the LE and sent it in to PTS - who has one and reinstalled...
In your case take it to a qualified shop and you'll save yourself a lot of grief..
