Question about Flotec 1 - 1/2 Sprinkler Pump Composite Quick Priming High - Capacity 115/230v

Open Question

Pump gets hot and then trips breaker

Purchased a new flotec 1 1/2hp sprinkler pump today. I wired it at the 230v setting just like the one it replaced. I have 12 gauge braided wire and have one hot under one screw and the other hot under the other. Ground is secure. Pump runs for about 10 minutes and shuts off. I have tested current and have 245v at the timer and at the motor and also made sure the dial was set to 230. Any suggestions???

SOURCE: Problems wiring Flotec sprinkler pump

L1- L2 doesn't care if blk or red. Make sure there is 220vac (240vac) on the supply wires. If there is there is something amiss with the pump. Eric

SOURCE: How do you remove the motor from a Flotec FPS5172, 1-1/2 HP.

The impeller screws on the motor shaft. First replace the through bolts in the motor. These are the long bolts, they will just cause headachs. On the back of the motor their will be a place to hold the shaft from turning, If you hold the shaft the impeller just unscrews. If you look in the center of the impeller it may have a set screw holding it to the shaft. If you have one of these it will be a left hand screw. Then you will need to break the impeller free as the brass that holds the impeller on will stick to the stainless steel of the shaft. Don't let how tight this is fool you when you put this back together it just goes on hand tight. Good luck

SOURCE: submersible well pump poping breaker

Hi,
The motor is locked and you cannot reverse it... the pump will need to be pulled and replaced...

Replace it with a "sandhandler" type pump that will pump the grit through it with out hurting it..

Flotec 1/12 sprinker pump runs 5 sec. and trips breaker

Hi,
The pump is seized up... you can try to open it and get it spinning... make sure that there is nothing stuck in the impeller...
other then that the motor bearing are locked up and that will also cause the pump not to turn...

Re-installing Flotec 5172 after overhaul. Cannot remember whether white wire goes on top terminal or bottom (near the 115/230 switch)

Hi,
If you are running the pump on 230v it will not matter which terminal you use...if you are on 110v then you need to hook it to the one marked "L2"

I replaced a one horse flotec sprinkler pump with a 1 1/2 horse pump. the one horse was wired at 115 volt/ 20 amp 12 gauge wire. the new pump is blowing the breaker.any suggestions ?

Your best solution would be to convert the circuit over to 230V assuming only the pump is on the breaker. Changing it to 230V will cut the amp draw in half and allow for the 12AWG wire to carry the load. You could increase the breaker rating but the wire is to small for the load and keeping it will lead to future problems if you leave the circuit as 115VAC.

Looking for shift sell for Flotec: FP5162

I've never heard of a shift sell for a flotec water pump. That is if you are looking for a part for a Flotec sprinkler pump. Maybe you're looking for a shaft seal.If you need parts or a manual you can look at www.flotecpumps.com The flotec part number for the mechanical seal and gasket kit is:5PP5000. You can search their web site for local suppliers, I'd call first to see if they'd have part in stock. Follow directions when installing. Do not use oil or grease to lube new seal. Liquid dishwashing soap is best.

Change wiring from 230v to 115v

There should be a wiring diagram on the name plate of the motor, or inside the wiring compartment or on that cover . Would be something with dots and HI , LO, and wire numbers.. or just a notation of 120 , 220 volts.
How is it wired now?
