Question about Hayward 100kbtu Pool Or Spa Propane Gas Heater H100idp1

Open Question

The heater works fine except for a whining sound while the inducer motor is running. This sound is much more pronounced than it was when the unit was first installed about 4 months ago. This is for an Hayward H100IDP1 spa heater.

SOURCE: Fixing our hotel's Hayward CSPAXI55 spa heater.

You can probally get a manuel on line if you go through Hayward.
When he took the old one out he probally just wired the circut together where the temp assembly goes into the cabnet in the top right front of cabnet in the upper panel. Then the temp probe runs around the side to the water header or manifold. If this is in the orignal spot it is on the right of the heater and easy to find. I'm not sure but if the exchanger has been turned then it will be around the back side of the header and it will be on the left side of the heater. Geting a manuel for this is a good idea anyway, good luck.

AO will apply to your blower, blower tubing, or blower vacuum switch. You need to check these items.

SOURCE: ao error message in Hayward heaters

You didn't indicate exatctly which model you have. But on most the AO error code is :Blower vacuum switch
open error If the blower prover switch does not close after the blower starts the control will
stop the ignition trial go into lockout. The blower will continue to run. Automatic reset is immediate after the switch closes.Check to be sure combustion blower starts
If you don't have your manual you can download one for your exact model at : www.haywardnet.com

is there an inverter board or a thermocouple in this unit? sounds like you have too much voltage coming to the board. can you measure the voltage to the motor?

SOUNDS LIKE A PRESSURE SWITCH MALFUNCTION OR A OBSTRUCTED FLUE EXHAUST. 2 FLASHES MEANS YOU ARE IN SYSTEM LOCKOUT. ATTEMPT TO START 3 TIMES THEN IN LOCKOUT MODE RIGHT? YOU WILL NEED TO TURN OFF AT T-STAT OR BREAKER TO RE-SET UNIT, OR WAIT 60 MINUTES & IT WILL DO IT AUTOMATICALLY. WHEN IT CALLS FOR HEAT THE DRAFT INDUCER MOTOR WILL COME ON, THIS WILL CREATE A VACCUM THAT OPENS THE PRESSURE SWITCH PROVING DRAFT INDUCER IS VENTING, THE VACCUM CREATED CAUSES THE PRESSURE SWITCH TO OPEN PROVIDING POWER TO THE IGNITION CONTROL. THIS IS WHERE YOUR PROBLEM IS ACCORDING TO YOUR DISCRIPTION. TRY TO DISCONNECT VACCUM LINE FROM DRAFT INDUCER MOTOR & SUCK ON IT WHILE LISTENING FOR A CLICKING SOUND AT PRESSURE SWITCH. IF YOU DON\'T HEAR THE CLICKING SOUND WHEN YOU DO THIS, THEN YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE PRESSURE SWITCH. IF YOU DO HEAR THE CLICKING SOUND THE PROBLEM IS WITH AN OBSTRUCTION IN THE FLUE VENTING. THIS IS SOMETIMES CAUSED BY DEBRIS GETTING LODGED IN THE PORT AT INDUCER MOTOR WHERE THE VACCUM LINE FROM PRESSURE SWITCH IS CONNECTED. TRY TO CLEAR OBSTRUCTION WITH COMPRESSED AIR OR A WIRE HANGER. THIS SHOULD FIX YOUR PROBLEM. GOOD LUCK. HOPE THIS WAS HELPFUL.

I replaced the combustion inducer motor the new motor runs slow and does not produce enough pressure could something on the board be bad?

Could be. what is the voltage going to the inducer? You might have a bad ground or a polarity problem. Let me know what voltage you have and we will go from there. Does the main blower motor run fine?

While you may be able to get just a motor it will not save you much. You will also run the risk of damage to the housing or fan(s) when you take the old one apart and try to install a new motor. Unless the new blower unit is several hundred dollars I would recommend you replace the whole assembly.

There is a induced draft motor that will run first to purge the combustion chamber and induce a draft, a pressure switch closes proving an induced draft exists, thus allowing the spark and pilot gas, or hot surface ignitir and gas to pilot rsil and /or burners, a trial period for ignition about 30 seconds each for 3 attempts will be made and if not lit by the 3rd attempt it locks out, requiring a reset of power to unit to reset the module or circuit board etc. 1st see what motors running, is it the flue exhaust motor/induced draft??

Goodman GS9 propane furnace inducer motor runs continuously

it sounds like the low temp limit switch, the one that cools the furnace down with the burner off and the thermostat open, when it cools to a point the fan stops, the other switch in burner area turns burner off/on, hope this helps

Weird sound coming out of the rotary unit inside gas heater

It may be your inducer motor making the noise. If there are any hoses hooked to the housing, make sure they are clear of blockage and moisture. Look for any way to drip a few drops of oil onto the motor shaft, it may help. If the unit is more than 10 years old, you might as well change the inducer motor as a precaution. It will fail at a most inconvenient time anyway.

sounds like the filter inside of the unit may be dirty and or the vent cap could be partially blocked causing the flue gas to build upo until the unit tripos on the high limit saftey
